Hello all,

My husband is retired, and in about a year, I'll be joining him in retirement. We have plans to become full time RV'ers, and have joined this forum to obtain information/feedback on what Make and Model of RV would be a good one for us to pick.

We definitely want either a Class A or C, and a diesel engine. We're looking for reliability first (since we'll be living in it), and comfort/features second.

Any feedback/comments would be much appreciated. Thank you and pleased to be here.

If you're planning to full time in it then I would concentrate on a class A. They have more room and more storage which can be a big factor living in it FT.

Welcome. Congrats on the retirements. Lots of good folks and good info here.

I have to agree if you are serious about full time look at Class A rigs. Also consider ir your are going to tow a vehicle (toad) or not and if so (most full timers do) what kind and what weight will your new coach allow to be towed. Lots of info to digest. Good luck with your search.

I wouldn't try full timing in a Type C, but people do it.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, much appreciated!

I think I'm leaning more toward the Class A. We have a mid-sized SUV we'd have to tow, so I think the Class A would be better all around.

Now, the question is, what Make? I have heard good things about Tiffin. And would you all recommend gas or diesel?

This place is a great resource for information. There are many knowledgable people on here willing to help answer questions and share their experiences.

Just my 2 cents...
MOST important is a floor plan and size that suits your lifestyle first. The wrong choice, will get old and turn to buyers remorse very quickly...especially, full timing. I also think most people would recommend diesel. Especially, full timing for towing and racking up the miles and longevity...it's more practical. We are not full timers, but prefer diesel for similar reasons. We are also often in hilly/mountainous terrain and it's VERY nice having all that diesel torque/power when towing up/down grades.

Brands can really be personal preferences...but, it is certainly helpful to hear of peoples' experiences. Owning a Newmar and coming from a Fleetwood, we very much prefer Newmar according to our personal experiences.

Julie, Head out to as many RV shows/dealers you can find. The more you see, the more you know. Also, take anything said by a salesman with more than a grain of salt; "We're just looking, not ready to buy."

X2. Try to visit one of the big shows like Tampa or Hershey when you can sit in multiple floor plans in multiple models and across different price points. Imagine where you would sit, eat, watch TV. Is the TV in front of you or do you have to turn your head sideways to see it. See what the coach 'feels' like when the slides are in...is there room to walk and can the fridge door open? Check storage, inside and out. Many of the big shows also have factory reps that you can ask questions of. Last recommendation, if you can, take factory tours of your top choices. We looked at motorhomes yesterday, at a dealership. The salesman told us that diesels are really only necessary if we go with a 40+ foot (we are looking at 32-34 feet). I know that salesmen lie just to get the sale. lol That's why I come here!

As for the floorplan, I definitely know what I want. The kitchen/refer has to be adequate, I don't want a couch - two recliners instead. I don't want carpeting (gets too dirty), I'd like to have a bathroom that has some counter space, and a pantry in the kitchen. A washer/dryer would be nice, but it's not absolutely necessary.

We've looked at RV trader and have seen some beautiful used Tiffins with barely any miles!

Great idea, thanks. I know that the Pomona Fairgrounds hold RV shows thoughtout the year. That would be a good time to try to pick the brain of a salesman, although, I can't trust what they tell me.
