Smile Newbie in SE Texas!

. . . and just posted in the New in East Texas thread too. We are newly empty nesters and looking to have our first motor home, definitely a class A. I've never even camped before, but this looks like a nice way to go. We've been doing lots of homework and think we should to with a diesel pre-owned. We will be traveling with our three doggies and maybe also with our daughter and son-in-law and their baby who is 7 months old! Any and all advice is welcome. It will be for short trips at first and to TCU football games! I'm mostly interested in the nesting and decorating. My husband can figure out the rest! This is an exciting time!

Hi and welcome to IRV2. I'm sure you'll enjoy the site and gets lots of good advice. I would say the first and most important consideration is to determine what type of floor plan you like, that fits into your budget. There are numerous floor plans to consider. The second consideration to me is a quailty manufacturer with good customer support. For me, I would shy away from manufacturers that are out of business (more difficult to get parts and support). When you find a coach you like, check the age of the tires. RV tires are expensive. If the tires have a manufacturer date greater than 5-7 years old, you will most likely have to replace them soon. Last. when you find the special coach I would recommend you find a competent rv technician to go through the entire coach and check everything out for you.

Thank you for your quick post. I heard that advice about the floor plan from the "Best Pre-owned RV" dealer near the Houston airport we went to. They all kind of look the same at this point! That dealer buys the RVs at auction, only the good ones, and goes over them completely, renovates, puts on new tires when necessary and also provides a warranty covering just about everything. Their customer ratings are very good too.

LOL about your "attack trained killer Shi Tzus"! Do they love RVing?

Unfortunately, we have yet to attend a Texas Boomer's rally. Work interferes with our travels! We will attend one someday. If you haven't already found it, here's the Boomer's section of the forum. Texas Boomers - iRV2 Forums
