Newbie Just Checking In - Glad to be here!

Thanks for having this site and being so helpful. My family and I have been wanting an RV for awhile to help with the costs associated with vacations. My wife and I have 4 children aged 3 - 13 yrs old. Cramming everyone into one hotel room was becoming a challenge.

About 5 months ago we decided not to wait any more and we seriously began searching for an RV that was both dependable, and reasonably priced. During this time my wife had a medical condition that would require a visit to one of only a few specialists in the country; we decided to make the trip there a family vacation.

After a few months of "trying on" various ~30' - 35' class A's and C's we settled on a 2007 Four Winds Chateau Sport with 28K miles. We picked it up on the 31st of October and went on a "try out" camp over the weekend about 100 miles from home. We had a blast, and were hooked.

We then went out to see our specialist in Provo, UT; we live in N.W. Georgia! Driving a 30' RV cross country with a tow vehicle was hard the 1st day or so, but with tips from this site and some providence from above we didn't get into any thing we could not get out of. It was a BLAST, the kids got to see the Petrified Forrest, Grand Canyon and a few other National Parks. We put 4,400 miles on the Chateau (named Tuck) in exactly 2 weeks. I was VERY impressed with the Ford V-10 Platform. On the way out west with some sever headwinds (up to 35 mph gusts - full upper body work out to keep it straight) during Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico we were able to eek out 7.9 MPG towing my wife's VW Routan (Dodge Caravan) minivan / tow dolly at 70+ MPH. On the way back through Wyoming, Nebraska, and Missouri we averaged 8.15 MPG having a tail wind in WY, and NE at the same speeds.

I am very thankful for the information and knowledge that is so easily accessible on this website. It helped me know what to look for and what to expect with the RV. I honestly think with out the Van we would have seen around 11+ MPG out of Tuck.

I am looking forward to "tweaking" the tune and opening up the breathing and exhaust to see what kind of power / MPG we can get out of Tuck. We bought this RV as a trial and know that we will get another in a few years as the kids grow and we need more space.

Just happy to be here and we are stoked to be on the road with you folks!
Take care.

Thanks everyone! Really looking forward to the late winter spring camping season. Had a drip out of the AC and when I pulled the inner cover off found all 4 of the mounting bolts loose. Tightened them down and no more issues. LOVE the Chateau. Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanza, Festivus, or what ever your flavor of Holiday Season is. Be safe on the roads and maybe we will cross paths with you somewhere in this beautiful country we have.
