Newbie to RV: Need help

We are a family of 4 (me, my wife and 2 kids - 11, 10) and planning to try our first RV trip around in next 4-5 weeks. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area. We have a confirmed reservation for a RV(Class C Motorhome - 32 ft) with Outdoorsy. I have a following questions about going on this RV trip for 4-5 days. If our family enjoys this trip, we will probably go on more RV trips.

1. Is it safe to drive on Highway 1 for first-timers on Class C from San Francisco to Bodega Bay and then to Mendocino..?

2. When we travel, we take a trip to various places like restaurants, hiking spots and more. How does one do this with a RV without towing a car..? Should we rent a car in our destination..?

First off, Welcome to IRV2!

Check for closures on Hwy1 as there are always landslides and road repairs. The area around Big Sur that was wiped out has reopened. Being new at driving a RV, even a 32ft might be a challenge for you. A lot of Hwy 1 is very winding and narrow but the scenery is fantastic. You can try some of the PCH (Hwy 1) to see if you manage, then always move out to 101 if it's too much for you.

Welcome to the forum.

You are joining a good group of friends here with good information to share. Read the various threads and ask questions as they come up or add information if you can.

I can't help with the first question as to the second question many rent a car at their destination or pack up camp an tour with the RV (parking can be a problem). We started out with a 27ft Class C and no toad but bought a toad 5 months in.

Good luck and enjoy the adventure!
