Newbie with a question

Looks like a great site and a wealth of info for someone like me.

Looking to get a travel trailer in the next 12 months or so. First step, confirm the GVWR for my tow vehicle, a 2004 nissan titan. Checked the certificate on the inside of the door says 6500. Doesn't sound right, thought when I bought the truck it was over 9000.

Googled 2004 nissan towing guide. With the options on my truck, offroad and tow package with type IV hitch, should be 9500. Now I'm confused, one or the other is wrong and I thought the certificate should be the last word. called the local nissan dealer, salesman said the certificate is figured without options.

Does anyone here know if he is absolutely correct? Hate to bank on it and then find out I'm over weight with the trailer.

I think the 6500 number sounds more reasonable for that truck. I had a Chevy k2500 2007 year HD with tow package and max was 9000lbs. You could take a picture of your ratings label and post it here so people can get the right info to guide you.

I checked the link. It supports the higher level.

The "2004 Nissan Towing Guide" also seems to confirm it (See page 25 if you have the time). For the SE level truck with the tow option the GVWR is 9400. It's just the certification tag that shows 6500. And per the salesman the certification tag doesn't include the impact of the tow package option.

So the big question - Is the salesman correct?
