Newbie with a question. Please help.

Hello everyone! I'm a proud owner of a 2013 Forester 3011DS and new to this forum.

If anyone could answer this question for me I would greatly appreciate it. When I called my insurance company today, they said that the VIN shows up in their system as a 2012 model.

I dealer told me that the Ford E450 frame was built in March 2012 and Forest River built the RV in May 2012.

I verified these dates as they are posted on the door. My question is: How do I really know this is a 2013 model as the dealer is telling me?

Thank you

Well welcome to the forum. My husband said if they are like car manufactures, they build the next year models the year before and release them toward the end of the year that they give as the year model, ex. 2013 is built in 2012 released toward end of the year 2012 but are concidered a 2013 hope that helps.

Hi and

Not uncommon for the chassis to be a model year older than the coach.

Welcome to IRV2. As agreed , its not uncommon , however your insurance Co should recognize it as a 2013 model. My 08 was built on an 07 chassis but my insurance policy recognizes it as an 08. The same was true of an 01 I had built on a 00 chassis.

Hopefully, that will not become an issue at all. Enjoy and welcome.

Welcome to the site, and yes, I agree with the others; nothing uncommon about your situation at all.

Welcome.

Welcome to IRV2! It's great to have you join the gang!

I would just call the manufacturer and give them the VIN number. Don't tell them what the dealer said. You will have a definite answer ASAP! Enjoy the new rig!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

We bought our 2013 model year Itasca Ellipse on Aug 31, 2012.

All US car manufacturers used to start the next calendar year's models in Sept of previous year. When Japanese started selling in US they went by actual calendar year for model year.
