Newby, retired, want to hit the road & need advice.
I'm retired, selling my house and I want to hit the road. But, my research has taught me that I have a lot to learn if I don't want to make all the mistakes most newbies make.
So, I have come to the temple of wisdom and knowledge because not only do I not have the answers, I don't even know the questions.
The first question is, when it comes to a great 5th wheel trailer to go with my one ton dually truck, which one gives the best bang for the buck. I believe that generally you get what you pay for and I don't mind paying the price for a superior product.
I will be grateful for all the help I can get. Thanks, Rolf.

Hi Rolf! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!
I would suggest you go to the "5th wheel discussions" under "RV Forums" at the top and post questions there for best results!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Howdy and welcome Rolf! If you get all the mistakes cataloged, please publish a book!! I think I learn something new every day. If the lesson comes at a relatively low price, I'm very pleased.

Welcome. Be aware that everyone who did their research and bought what they bought is sure they found the best answer even though they have different campers. Listen to what is said, pick something that looks like what you want, buy a used model close to it and live with it for a year then order what you really want...you could save a lot of money and frustration. ;-)

Rolf,
Your biggest mistake could be selling your house and hitting the road too quickly. There may be NO going back depending on how much housing increases while the value of your RV decreases!
It may be best to rent a MH or trailer for a few weeks to try it out. Then see what you can afford while you keep your house. Then reassess in a year and feel much more confident in your decision now that you have a year of 'hitting the road' under your belt.

Welcome to the forum. The best piece's of peace I got are the following.
Go to RV shows, they have them everywhere and often. Go to a dealership. Ask to look at the 5th wheels. After they show you a few ask to spend time (alone) in rig or two. Sit and relax, could you both live in it especially if it rained and you were stuck inside for a few days.
Lay down on the bed, is it large enough, long enough, space big enough for the two of you. Enough closet space? Do you fit in the shower? Can you turn around in it? Is the kitchen going to work, pretend you are cooking a meal, is there enough room?
Storage. Is there enough? Need room for golf clubs, scouba equipment, hiking equipment? Whatever your hobby is, do you have enough room for it?
Floorplan is important. Has to work for both of you. Buying used first time around is good advice.
There are YouTube videos on everything RV, How to empty your tanks, leveling your RV, driving your RV, Watch some of them. Great advice to go to the 5th wheel forum. People here are always willing to help.
Good luck, you will do fine. Lynne
