Novice from Texas traveled 12 states in 5 days!
Greetings from Maine!
My husband Tom and I (Mercy) purchased our first RV a few days prior to leaving from San Antonio, Texas bound to Maine! We purchased the 16 BHS Black Label. Tom is a retired pilot and I am a RN who works 1 day a week, we have adult children, one 9 year old, and grandchildren. We are on this adventure making memories with our 9 year old and our 2 labradoodles. Happy to report we have made it to Maine, and didn’t experience any major issues, we will be here a few weeks before heading back home. We read about tire temperatures and psi, is this something we are suppose to be on top of, if so how do you take the temperature of a tire? We are looking forward to many more trips, any advice is always welcome!
Respectfully,
Tom and Mercy

Welcome to the forum! We live in the Austin area ourselves and getting ready to head the opposite direction to California (the state of my birth) to go to a family reunion and then head north from there to spend time in the Sequoia NF and then a couple stops as we head back south along the coast. RV = freedom. Looking forward to hearing about more of your adventures!

Greetings, Mercy and Tom! Welcome to the iRV2 forums.
Temps for tires are best taken with an infrared "gun" thermometer. Take the pressure readings when tires are cold and do NOT downward-adjust (bleed off) air when they warm up during travel.

Definitely need to be on top of tire pressures. If you haven’t weighed it fully loaded then I would inflate to max pressure listed on the tire sidewall to be on the safe side until you get it weighed. There are many threads on here about proper tire care and inflation. Its one of the most important things to monitor on your new rv for safety sake. Congratulations!

Thank you for your tire guidance, we will now know on our way back. We plan on being in Maine until first week of August then we go back south where the roads are hot enough to fry an egg.

It seems as if we were flying but we actually slept in Houston, Mississippi, Alabama, Ohio, New York, and Maine. Tom’s mom has a house in Westerville, Ohio so we relaxed at the family home for a night. We also learned after awaking we should have not slept at a rest area in Maine but we arrived late and knew we wouldn’t be able to drive down to the cottage and park the RV properly so we stopped at the first rest area and slept, when we awakened we read the sign “no overnight stays”

Thank you, we are excited about our new adventures. We are thinking we may need a bigger one or we need to leave the dogs behind for our next planned trip.
