Our life is about to change

Hello

I've been lurking here since October 2018. The resources here are phenomenal and have been very helpful in planning for our fulltime journey.

We are a mid-60s couple planning on fulltime travel. Until recently, we weren't sure when our travels would begin.

My parents fulltimed for 3 years back in the late 90s when I'm sure the lifestyle was much more difficult. GPS, Internet access and mobile communication have all improved dramatically since then. They traveled in a Newmar Dutch Star.

As they say, the stuff is getting real. We have an agreement to sell the sticks and bricks. We've been working on downsizing.

Bob retired in September 2017 after 44 years with AT&T. Jan retired in May 2018 from a position as a teachers assistant.

The S&B is in the center of the peoples republic of Illinois. We travel on a portion of Route 66 daily. We are looking forward to leaving the Land of Lincoln in the rear view.

We will be purchasing a Newmar DP at some point in the next few months. Questions are what model and new or used.

We made a trip to Northern Indiana back in May and visited both Newmar and Nexus for factory tours. We were very impressed with the tour at Newmar and we look forward to returning to Nappanee.

We are scheduled to visit Livingston, TX in November for boot camp at Escapees which we joined in March 2019. While we are there, we will take care of domicile and other issues as well.

I'll probably be hanging out primarily in the Newmar forum.

Safe travels everyone.

Welcome to the Forum. I started full-timing in June 2019. Down sizing was a big challenge. All the stuff I'd accumulated, most of which I didn't need.

As you have probably seen on a number of posts, many members recommend getting a lightly used RV vs. a new one. There is a huge depreciation hit buying new. In addition, with a used RV the previous owner took care of all the warranty defects and problems.

Best wishes and joy in your new adventure.

If you're not sure what you need to go full time, I'd suggest that you attend one of the major RV shows. It may be a little bit of a trip for you, but there is a huge RV show in Hershey Pa. Sept 11-15th. You will need a few days there as it is big. Almost every manufacturer will be there with a lot of their models. You can compare different rigs side by side and determine which one would best suit your needs. Buying there may or may not be a good idea but being able to see everything is one place is worth the trip.

Good luck with your search.

Good luck with your search.

We went to the shows in Louisville back in January and Milwaukee in February.

Louisville was OK. Milwaukee was a disappointment. Too many boats.......

We made hotel reservations for Hershey last month. It's a 2 day drive from here, but to us, that's no big deal.

When we were working, 2 week road trips were our vacation of choice. We've done both coasts multiple times on different routes each time and a good bit of Florida including Key West.

We're looking forward to getting rid of the 2 week limit, seeing more of the country and spending more than a day in one spot.

You'll like Hershey. We go there almost every year. There is so much to see. You won't be disappointed.
