Recently retired. Just bought 2004 Itasca Sunrise

We haven't been out with it yet. My wife will climb into it a few times, but she has mobility challenges - uses a wheelchair. She can get around with crutches, but not easily. So we are looking into ways to help get her into the coach.

We want to come up with a winch to lift a sling type chair for her up to floor level. I wonder if anyone has ideas to share along that line.

We are looking to take the rig out next week at least overnight to a park close to home.

I have valued this forum during our discovery about RV'ing in a Class A machine. Thanks to all you members who contribute.

Welcome aboard!

Can't help you with the getting around part but could help a bit on the chassis if you've got the GM 8.1 engine with the Allison 1000 transmission.

Do you know what engine you have?

Hi Gred! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! Just Google "handicap lift for RV" and you'll find lots of possibilities! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Yes we have the Workhorse chassis w/8.1. and Allison 5 spd #1000. It does seem to have plenty of power! Thx for the offer. So far everything seems to be working. I’m a little concerned the house batteries may be draining a bit even with disconnect. I haven’t had it long enough to know if it’s a problem, but the status light indicate a drain over a couple of days.

Has the Bosch brake recall been done on it?

Has the transmission fluid been changed and, if so, did they put Transynd in it?

It came with Dexron iii and needed to be changed every 25,000 miles or two years.

Transynd is synthetic and will go much longer.

How old are the tires and what at what pressure are they set?

To Arch Hoagland:
Yes, I checked with Workhorse office about the recalls. All were completed. The ABS light does remain on and advice in forum recommends cleaning the sensors, which I will attempt soon. Don't know about the Tranny fluid. I knew it used Dexron III. Will look into the synthetic. So you recommend it?

I was impressed with the transmission performance as it went through the gears speeding up and slowing down. Seems very solid to me. Just shy of 60,000 miles.

Front tires are 2017, rear are 2013 & show very slight checking in sidewall. I got a $800 discount on the asking price for the tires. So I will put new rubber on the rear before I take it long distance. What pressure do run in your tires? Thanks much for your thoughts. --gh

Yes I strongly recommend switching to Transynd.

I run about 90 to 95 all the way around my coach. That's about 5 lb over recommended for the weights on my axles.

Get you coach weighed and check on the tire makers chart for your pressure.

Keep us updated on what you do to help with the mobility problem because that subject comes up on here every couple of months or so.
