Reno question from New Member - Canada
First of all, I am very happy to have found this forum We have recently purchased a used motorhome (1997 Four Winds Hurricane). While this MH fit our limited budget, and appears to be in mint condition, there are a couple of things we would like to do to make it suit our needs. We would like to hear views on whether it is possible to install an overhead, drop down bunk over the cab area. It is not intended to be used by humans, but we would like to be able to put our dogs, and dog crates in this area. Our breed is relatively small (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels) with an individual weight that is well under 30 lbs (typically about 20 lbs). We would appreciate hearing pros and cons of doing something like this (such as, does it create a problem for the roof) and approximate costs to do it. Thank you... really looking forward to reading this forum... lots to learn

Welcome to the forum! We have a class C and use the upper area in the way you are describing; however I have no idea if such an area could be adapted to your coach unfortunately. But I imagine someone here at irv2 should have some information..

Thanks "Toyduck" I have seen the newer Hurricane models with this feature, but was factory built in... so I'm guessing I can have it remodelled to do the same... ???

Perhaps. Have you tried contacting the manufacture to see if they have any such options?

What a great idea...many Thor Motor Coach RV's including the NEW Hurricane have this "new" overhead bunk.
But, it is not a new idea...just an idea taken from the Toy Hauler RV makers.
Happi Jac has been making these drop down bunks for years.
See: BedLifts
There are other makers too.
Best luck

Saw one in new winnie coach. Seemed very unstable but for small pups, why not. Reliable RV in MS told us the contraption is $$$$ when we inquired as its some kind of pulley assembly and reinforced ceiling. Maybe go poke around a lot that can order parts?

Thank you everyone for the replies to my enquiry. I did check on the Happy Jack and viewed other MHs with the added drop down bunk. I'm starting to think this might just look like the add on that it will be and not worth the expense :( Factory installed would have been the way to go... maybe our next one
