RV Newbie!

Hello! We are picking up our 2017 Starcraft Satellite 18DS tomorrow and I'm so excited! After years of going back and forth we finally said [Moderator Edit] and bought one! Our maiden voyage will be going to see the eclipse in two weeks. We've got three dogs which we consider our kids and the camper makes it so much easier to go and bug out.
I don't love the lack of storage space in this model but I was promised a larger rv after we get used to towing something. Oh the joys of marriage! I'd love to hear anyone's storage hack ideas. I've Pinterested myself to death with them and yet I need more!
I'm also, which is more important than my storage issue, confused a bit about a polarity indicator. I read in the manual that a digital multimeter or dedicated circuit analyzer and a polarity indicator is needed to check power receptacles prior to plugging in. I had no problem finding a digital multimeter to buy but I can't seem to find a polarity indicator anywhere. Am I doing something wrong? I know the fellas at CW will help us tomorrow but I like getting info from folks who are actually using this stuff. I did read that a surge protector is recommended. Thoughts? Recommendations?
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
Happy Trails!
~Beth

from WA State!

I went for over 50 years RV'ing without a surge suppressor and never burned anythong out. But the present rig came with one so now I guess I'm glad as this rig has a bunch of expensive electronics!

Hi Beth! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! Keep her between the ditches!

I would encourage you to buy one of the Progressive Industries EMS series protection devices that provide surge protection and protect your RV against ANY type of electrical problem that you may encounter, including problems in the power pedestals at campgrounds. They come in both a hardwired and portable version. You will pay about $350 for them, but it could prevent destroying thousands of dollars worth of equipment in your RV.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
