S W Louisiana Checking in
Charlie & Rubye checking in from S.W.La. Have been Newbes for 6 years now. Time to expand our knowlege.
For the most part we have traveled mostly out of state. With the fuel prices slowing us down, we'll be looking for places within a few hours to reduce our cost. We try to camp at least once a mth.
Please anyone knowning campgrounds neer the I-10 Tx/La state lines that may not be listed on the big internet sites. Let us know.
We do have some great parks rite here. Sam Houston Jones State Park, Jelly Stone, Ellander Bridge, Loran Bridge.
And last we are looking to get a larger unit. Our 22' R-Vision is Getting kinda small. Are maybe I'am just growning to big. Anyway Thinking 27' to 30' bumper pull with super slide. Must be rear liven model. Looking at Cherokee 27L,Wildwood26RL, Puma26RLSS. Anyone own one of these? And whats your opinion? Thanks.

Big howdy from Texas. We don;t get much time to head that way. There is a great place to visit in the spring...Hodge's Gardens, between Many and Leesville, LA.

Fairview Riverside in Madisonville, LA.
Fairview-Riverside State Park. Madisonville, LA. good place to stay for the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival in October.. The Tchefuncte River goes thru the town and the Wooden Boat Festival is a blast! Madisonville is a small town next to Mandeville and Covington across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. Electric hook ups. Spartan but pretty. You can ride a bike (or take a LONG walk) along LA. 22 during the festival and cross the Tchefuncte. Lock up your bike at Town Hall or one of the local places near the river. Great food, crafts, and of course, the beautiful old wooden boats. There is also a classic car show as part of it. Good food is easy to find. Friend's on the Tchefuncte, Coffee's Boilin' Pot, Morton's Seafood. A friend of mine owns Coffee's-gumbo is good, Catfish Madisonville is my favorite-get it grilled). For upscale dining, there is Keith Young's Steak House (great food with a price to match-ouch!). Above all are the residents of Madisonville. Wonderful people!! That is why I moved to Madisonville 8 years ago. Real, genuinely nice people!
