Exclamation Safe Areas in EAST Kansas?

Hi, Im just doing the ''Walmart'' thing going out to Tennessee. Im looking for the ''good'' the bad and the ''ugly'' in East Kansas. Even Lawrence seems to have a high crime rate. Im just going to front seat it in a small pickup. Where are the ''good'' areas and the areas to definitely avoid?

Im disabled and might need to mill around during the day. Didn't know East Kansas had such a high crime rate!

Any help appreciated, thanks

Nice to have you join us.

As a general rule you will be safer in smaller town Wal Mart's rather then the one's near large cities. A lot of these stores even have security patrols. Call ahead to see if they do.

Safe Areas in EAST Kansas?

Quite a few small towns in east Kansas have city parks that also have RV camping. Some are free and the rest are pretty cheap. When I go to SE Kansas to see my mom I stay in Chetopa KS at Elmore city park. It’s nice, quiet and safe. The police patrol several times a day. Plus they have a new bath house and 50 amp.
The best part, $15 a night. Used to be 5. And it’s on an honor system. Did I mention it also has WiFi?
I travel there from Nashville Tennessee and it’s good road all the way.

Look for small towns that are also the county seat and you’ll likely find RV sites near the fairgrounds.

I was going to say much the same thing, I spent a few nights at such parks in Kansas when driving through in 2017, one in eastern Kansas was in the town of Parsons, others were all central / western Kansas.

Oswego Kansas also has sites at the fairground also on the Neosho River and Alamont Kansas has sites at Idlewd
Lake a few miles south of town. I think Bartlett Kansas also has a few sites at the reservoir.

He is not in an RV. He is driving a small pickup and sleeping in the cab.
Or at least that's what his OP says.

Yes. That’s true but an RV site or campground with a bath house would provide him with a convenience not found in most small Pickups.

I don't think he wants to spend the money.
Then again, he hasn't been back so we don't know what he wants...
