Settling in
Hi, my husband and I sold our house just before Covid bought a truck and a 35 ft fifth wheel, retired and planned to go on an adventure. Fast forward to the present.... we are staying on Vancouver Island, BC keeping our social distance and wondering like the rest of the world.... what does 2021 hold? We are loving living in our trailer but are finding it hard to meet people given the weather and social distancing. Any suggestions on how to meet up with other full timers without breaking the rules? Grateful to be part of a forum devoted to RVers!

Nice to have you here with us.
You might start by looking at our Full Timers forum. I’m sure a lot of our members are having the same problem as you. They may give some insight into how they are handling it.

Come on down.
We've crossed the country 3 times since the COVID hit. Southern routes each time. We are currently in Utah, having come across from Florida, and having a glorious time.
You're free to travel (they aren't *really* stopping you at the state line). Only thing is, Native communities have been hit hard by COVID and have asked that we be circumspect about traveling through their national boundaries (especially the Navajo nation, I'd avoid the four corners area out of respect).
Otherwise, states vary in terms of how seriously they are taking this, but people are pretty consistent about masking up at truck stops, which helps. Not so much at Walmart, which I think is the major risk. We've been using Uber Eats a lot; note they also deliver groceries, which is highly recommended if you're high risk.
Generally not hard to find places to stay except in California, which is still locked down. We only rarely dry-camped on our last trip. Trying to avoid Walmart and casino's as you can imagine (although casino's are starting to open up a bit, I wouldn't actually *go in* for heaven's sake)
We stopped off in Quartzsite for a couple of days. If you've ever considered doing the Quartzsite thing, now may be the time. I wouldn't say it's exactly hopping, but people are around. Lots of outdoor markets and opportunities to make new friends around the campfire. Plenty of room to camp, from what I could see. Note I was primarily scoping out the short-term camping areas, I woulda stayed in Plomosa Road except wifey nixed that idea. So we stayed in town at an RV park, and there was PLENTY of room. Could have that combination of low density and social connections you're looking for, plus there's an argument for skipping flu season altogether.
Best to get your vaccine before you go, if so inclined. Florida will literally vaccinate anybody because so many people winter there; not clear any other state has a well defined policy and it's the usual bureaucratic nightmare (it's what we do best)
