I have a 34' 1996 Winnebago Vectra on a GM chassis. When I try to put the gear shifter in neutal or drive it stops at reverse. If I start in park and pull fast to drive it will go but it feels like I am pulling the shifter past something trying to stop the shifter.
I took the cable loose at the trans and the trans shifts fine. Also, once the shifter makes it to drive, all is fine. As long as I don't go to the left past neutral, the shifter works fine. I only have problems going from park thru reverse and on the neutral and drive.
I took the column apart under the shifter collar and really couldn't see the shifter. I suppose I need to pull the steering wheel and check. What should I be looking for?
Thanks all, TD

Hi TD, and welcome to iRV2. I think you'll find a fix to this shifting problem here.

TD, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us. Sorry I can't help much on the chassis side of things but I am sure some of our members can and will. How long has this been going on? Do you know if setting the parking brake first before putting trans into park helps the issue? Let us know and help should come soon. Enjoy the forum.

Welcome to IRV2 !
I suggest you call Winnebago Customer Service at 1-800-537-1885. Have your Winnebago serial number and Vehicle ID number available. This will help them locate info specific to your unit.

TigeDuner, Check the shifter cable between the steering column and the transmission, mine started hanging up after the engine got real hot. It turned out that the cable shield had melted some of the plastic in the cable shield and was causing the cable to bind up. I oiled the cable thoroughly and it worked fine after that. Good luck on finding the fix.
