Still waiting in the wings to be a newbie!

Hi- So far, I've been an armchair RV'er, reading solo traveler blogs from my NYC apartment....wishing....dreaming....

Seems like all the caravans and meet-ups for RV'ers happen west of here, so it's been hard to find anyone out east who might be as green as myself and wanting to check out RV'ing....

Thinking that even renting a small RV for a weekend and going upstate or out to Long Island (closest places to the city, so easy to get to) might be the way to get my feet wet. I still feel kind of nervous about it, since even though I have a drivers license, in the city one relies on subways/ buses/ taxi....But at some point, this girl's gotta just TRY it, fear and all....

Anyone else up in this part of the country who finds themselves similarly inquisitive?
Or maybe wants to meet up socially to chat about it?

Welcome to the Forum! The dream you talk about has been the dream of many here and you can get there.

Driving these takes a bit of getting used to. Go to a dealership (outside the city) and tell them you've never driven before and want to get one (don't need to tell them not right now) and ask them if you can test drive one. They can instruct you on how to drive.

There are also RV driver instructor courses out there. Search it and read. If there is a used dealership somewhere around try that. Wish I lived closer to you cause we could get together and show you about the RVs.

There is a "Solo RVer" under Forums. Might find some help there.

How far away from retirement, do you want the rig prior to retirement, what's your budget, interests? Have you ever camped before? You can PM me here if you want and we can talk.

Best of luck and keep dreaming. LB

Read, read, read and then read more forums, blogs anything you can find. Renting is a great way to get started.
What do you want to do with your RV? Travel, camp, visit interesting places near by or just what is it you desire? Same thing I tell friends when they ask what motorcycle should they buy. What are you going to do with it??
Have fun learning and please ask all the questions you might have.
