Throwing caution to the wind
My husband and I are seriously working at setting ourselves free. I am selling the biz. He's working on selling off everything, buying a 5th wheel type rig and heading out. He's retired at 57. I just turned 53. All kids gone. I want to work on my oil paintings everywhere I go.
Any suggestions, comments, instructions is welcome. I don't offend easily so please be candid. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum!! what a great plan!
we are in the process of doing the same thing. hoping by next year to be on the road. we will still need to work and will be able to on the road.
tonight I worked on the "master plan" and all we need to do to be ready to go.
check out the Escapees Club - maybe we will see you in Goshen next year! (hope that's OK to put here )
best of luck.

Thanks SMRDNR!! Our goal is to take off next year as well. When you say you will have to work on the road do,you mean working at national parks, etc.? I've heard of people doing that and loving it. I would love to be able to sell some of my paintings along the way and maybe even help out RV neighbors with a good haircut since a salon spa is the biz I'm selling. Maybe make a little pocket change.

we will continue our current jobs via the internet. I think the first year we will travel a lot then maybe get work camping positions if we need them- I think the hardest part will be selling all the "stuff" and the house. is your avatar one of your paintings?

We have 2 fmly cars, 1 truck, 3 classic cars, 2 harley motorcycles, business, 2 houses 2 sell. Yeah, we have our work cut out. We just decided there's too much stress. Time to stop it as its totally affecting my health. Selling everything. I really want to have a home base and I've chosen northeast florida where most of my family is. I feel,it's important to have a home base. What do you think?

Princess, As a cancer survivor I couldn't agree with you more. You need to try to reduce the stress and enjoy this life as much as possible. I too am trying to reduce my work load and travel more while I can.
I hope your future road is a happy and healthful one. Too bad you can't take those great toys with you.
Sammie

We did the same thing three years ago. Best thing we ever did, love the lifestyle. Good luck.

One item: Be debt free when you start to fulltime!!
We have never been real “responsible” with our money. We spent what we made. Too many toys. It is the best advice ever.
We bought a less expensive camper than we wanted, and a late model used truck rather than new, but we were debt free when we started. We are still debt free. That is not to say we don't have bills, but a no installment loans, no credit card debt.
We don't have much, but what we have, is paid for. This was the best advice we ever received and for once, I was smart enough to take it.

My advice: Enjoy! My wife and I want to travel while we are still able and can still remember why we want to...
