Trip Planning
Hello, everyone. My wife and I are fairly new to the forum as participants. We are planning our first major trip from California to points east in our Fleetwood Providence. On our trip next month we will head out Interstate 40, and making plans for many stops along the way. We have traveled the 40 many times in passenger vehicles and went from point A to point B in as few hours as possible. Not that way this time. We are using AAA and the web for help on finding places to go, things to see, adventures to take. We have three weeks. We are hoping some of you can offer some tips on what to see along the way, rv parks to stay in, places to avoid, and any highway work that may obstruct our travels. Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi folks! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
We traveled I40 on a trip out west in 2012 but don't remember enough details to help you. Hope you have a great trip!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Two possible planning tools
Welcome to the irv2 gang! Glad you two decided to join. I'm sure you will get plenty of feedback on your questions. We recently made a 3,000 mile trip in our new motorhome and I found two tools to be really useful.
AllStays Camp & RV - Really useful in planning stops....shows private camp sites, Nat'l Parks, State Parks, Walmarts, and a lot of other items. If you touch a symbol on the map, it offers a pop-up brief ID and tip with a link to a website (if that camp or park offers one). From there we were able to get contact info, rates, pictures and more. Note: We use this on an iPad or iPhone. It also works on an Android device. (Check out the AllStays website for more info)
Good Sam's Itinerary Planning Tool - http://trips.goodsamclub.com
This is a really nice itinerary planning tool that uses a map as a visual guide. It offers a number of different bits of information along with the itinerary info. It is powered by Rand McNally. You can search along your route, find things to do, and locate campgrounds.

Glad to have you here with us. I always found that planning the trip is almost as exciting as going on the trip. Good luck with your plans, and Happy Trails!!

Welcome and let me toss in another tool. I use Googlemaps a lot. It lets me add waypoints to change the route while giving me traffic and roadwork reports. That lets me choose between superslab just get there and cutting corners down the "blue highways". Sometimes the difference is great and sometimes not worth thinking about but a lot more fun. ;-)
