Hi Folks, we are currently wrapping up a few things and when that is done we will be getting a Class A and become full time RV'ers. Got a 7 acre farm here in Western PA where we grow our own veg and raise our own meat. That's going to be a big adjustment when we sell it and go full time.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and you'll probably see me poking around the different forums asking dumb questions so please be kind, haha.

A biggie for me is I want a Class A with the door in the middle, not in front of the co pilots chair. I don't see too many so is there a brand that caters more to this than others?

Also we want a big rig but we don't want an overloaded chassis. Any advice on this would be very helpful.

I'm sure this isn't the place for all this so, see ya in the rooms.

Jim and Beryl,

Gas MHs have the door in the middle and diesel up front. Most people say floor plan, floor plan, floor plan. Go to RV shows (they are everywhere) and walk through MHs and RVs. Then go to a dealership and walk through and imagine yourself living in them.

There is a big depreciation on new rigs. There are also a lot of good used MHs out there. Go into a search engine and enter "used motorhomes" and look at camping world, PPL, and then enter "used motorhomes in PA" Craigslist is another good source of used ones close to home. Go to a place that builds MHs and take the tour.

What do you need / have to have? Washer/dryer, dish washer, dinette or table and chairs, dbl wide fridge? Ice Maker? What do you absolutely have to have?

There are a large variety of rigs out there and I think when you find it you will know. Lots to learn here so don't be afraid to ask because there are a lot of knowledgeable people here.

Safari coaches are diesel and have a middle entry door.

We just went full-time in July 2014. We have a small beginner rig and are now looking at Class As. We've discovered it would have been easier to finance it while we still owned our home. Just food for thought unless you plan to pay cash or finance a small %. We had hoped to live in the small rig but now need to upgrade and we're being told we're going to have a hard time. We invested all our house money for the day we want to quit. So we don't want to touch it or 401k. Just something to think about!

Do as much research as possible before you make any decisions. Go on the various manufacturer forums on IRV2 and read what poeple like/don't like about their RV's, gas vs diesel, quality, what breaks on them, how they get them fixed, down time, maintenance requirements, customer service ect. You will develope a better sense of what is important to you. Then go look at them, drive them and you will really start to notice what people are talking about.

Then buy what is really important to you. In most cases the floorplan is really the most important to make sure fits your needs. Don't believe the notion that only the diesel models will support a big enough MH to full time in. There are many gas models that may fit your needs too. Look at it as buying a house, because that is what it will be to you. When it come to new/vs used that again is personal preference. In todays market the saving on a used model is not as significant as it was a few years ago if you are looking for a newer model, with the newest technology, again it's all about what is more important to you, but just remember you get what you pay for, and at a high pricepoint to start, spending a few thousand more to get what you really want will not change your payment much and will give you the peace of mind that you bought a MH that best fit your needs. Hello and welcome! Great group of knowledgable people here who give their time to help others. Take your time, make a list of things you'd like to have in your motorhome that will make your transition easier. Think about your habits and go about visualizing your life in each RV you look at. Size is important, floor plan as well.

I agree, the front door behind the passenger is a favorite of mine, hard to find on diesels. Check Fleetwood, you may luck out. Other than that, a gas RV may be the answer, especially if you don't plan extra long trips and are planning long stays in one area. Diesels get better gas milage, but you save a bunch on the gas models, so they are great if you don't travel long distances. They, having the door you want.
