Question Upgrading (I hope)

Our 2008 Fleetwood Fiesta did not handle as well as we hoped in this bitter cold. We are looking to upgrade (I say "I hope" since I am seeing conflicting reports on the models we are considering) this month to a new model and hopefully one that is more cold hardy! Looking at the new Thor Miramar, the Coachman Mirada, and the Fleetwood Bounder. All while I gaze enviously at the models having the Aqua-Hot which my budget just doesn't allow for. Anyone out there that does cold weather camping and I mean cold. -14 at times this winter. I did my research and found that the "heat pump" really doesn't work under 40 degrees. I also like the Allegro but only an 18 gallon propane tank? Anyone explain this? Thanks for anyone's help!

Welcome aboard and glad to have you with us. Your comment about the heat pump is correct. They don't work much below 40 F. Wow the temps you mention are cold. Bounder or Allegro would be my choice of the ones mentioned and yes the LP tanks are not very big. You can always have some portable electric heaters on board to help everything stay a bit warmer. Good luck.

Wow

The quality of the Allegro was amazing. We had a great time "shopping" all the models. And we loved the Allegro 34 TGA with the 3 slides. The Bounder.... I tested the bathroom cabinet and the screw feel out with the door just hanging from the bottom door latch?! Had to be a sign....

We have a 2012 Coachman Mirada 34BH. We have had it for a year. Haven't done any cold weather camping in it so far. Probably never will in the temperatures that you talking about. The coldest we've seen when we have been camping is in the mid 30's. The propane heat works fine. We have a 68 pound tank, and have not had it refilled yet. I don't think you will find any heat pump that is going to work below 40-45. I believe you can get heat strips for it, but may be wrong.

We've really enjoyed it so far. I did install Banks exhaust system with headed, and their cold air intake. It did help with the low end torque, and maybe a small bit on economy.

Hope you find something that you will enjoy!

We went with the Allegro due to extra insulation and the better windows.... Picking it up Saturday!
