Vintage motorhome and National Parks
Dw and I have lived full-time in our 29ft 1 slide 5ver since 06. We've been in the same RV park 6yrs, and haven't traveled any with the 5ver. We plan to keep our RV space, and maybe the 5ver.
Now here is what we wanna do: Get a Vintage Motorhome and visit as many National Parks as we can.
Re: time and money; We have lots of time, neither of us work. Would really like to keep the "ready to hit the road" under $10k, I'm pretty handy with most trades, master of none, and not afraid of a diy project. Dw will need to do bulk of driving.
We've ruled out the cab-over class C. We both really like the low profile sleek, I'm gunna call it "vintage 70-80's futuristic look"
I am a big fan of Harley 1994 and his Total rebuild

Go for it. You might like the GMCs with an Olds 455 and chain driven front wheel drive.
1973 Gmc Other , Delaware OH - 113796046 - RVTrader.com
I was shopping in 2010 and found several of these fiberglass RVs.
I found class a's without slides were hard to re-sale, so the price was very good for what you end up with and the owners are very willing to negotiate - I found many low mileage modern 10 year old class a's under $20K.

Start going through craigs list. I use Searchtempest.com to search all of craigs list or just a 500 mile radius or what ever you need. Found our 32' Rockwood on it for 2,000. Were are happy with it 4 years later.

Thank yall for the welcome! Tomwalt, thank you, yes I've been looking at that 73 GMC, I like the look. Do they have any known problems, design flaws, etc. Dependability issues.
87Rockwood thank you for the searchtempest.com I spent 5 minutes on and believe it'll be my go to search site.

There is an owners forum with all the answers. I think this is it:
gmcmotorhome.com - The GMC Motorhome Source

We have a 1993 Allegro Bay 454 Workhorse that we bought from my parents. If you would like more info, let me know. All the "big items" work such as heat, a/c, stove, oven, microwave, refr/frzr, shower, toilet, sinks, water heater, electrical outlets, stereo w/ipod/phone input jack, antennae, step, awning, etc. There may be just a few minor things that could use replacing like a few light bulbs outside, Holding tanks are fine. All windows/screens function. Onan Generator works great. (A/C in the dash does not work, but could be repaired. The A/C unit runs on the generator while driving and cools you off quite well.) Has new tires with less than 1500 miles, new awning drape, new converter, reconditioned radiator with cooling core. We've put about $3000 in this motorhome in the repairs mentioned and a few other minor repairs such as closet latches, water heater door screen and latch, etc. Nothing would have to be done before hitting the road (except possibly brake work...new brakes were put on a couple of years ago but the calipers stick sometimes and overheat after sitting up. To avoid this, we crank it and let it idle ten minutes and then drive it about 10-15 miles each week. That seems to work fine.) We are looking to get a 5th wheel or travel trailer. Located in Alabama.
