Unhappy We're new, shopping for a TT for the first time.

Hi everyone!

We have recently decided on purchasing our first travel trailer. We lived in our car (a tiny Veloster) last year while traveling out west, it's time to upgrade. HOWEVER, with so many options, we're drowning in them.

Our ideal model is the Coleman CTS274BH, which after doing research we hear isn't that great of a trailer. We want something that we can comfortably live in for a while without major problems. Do any of you have suggestions for models that have the queen sized bed + the back bunks? We want to be able to take family members and have enough space, without getting a slide.

Another issue is that we'll have to purchase a towing vehicle, we're looking at Ford F150s.

We're so lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Alyssa and Kamran.

Welcome to the forum!

With a F150 your tow capacity can vary from 5000 to 12000 or so. You can either pick the TT and buy a truck to match or buy a truck and then a TT within the tow capacity. Do not trust the salesman (either truck or TT) to give you the correct information. Look it up for yourself.

There are lots of good TT's out there, used and new. I prefer a well maintained used but new can certainly be nice. Slides can give you lots more room but they also add weight.

I'm sure others will chime in with favorite brands and other things to look for.

Good luck and have fun with your search!

Do you thinking buying used from a place like Camping World is a bad idea? We're not sure what we're looking for when searching for something "well maintained".

Well, Camping World is a good place to look, but you will usually get better value from a private owner and you can talk to the owner. You might find a deal at CW but they will not know the TT like an owner will.

There is so much information on the internet on whatever TT you look at that you should be well informed before you go look. Of course, at CW you can look at several, write down info on the ones you like and go home and research. Do not believe you must buy the day you look to get the great price...

Another advantage from a private owner is that he may include equipment that CW will want to charge extra for, like tow equipment.

X2 What Larry said ///// just get out there and start looking at a bunch of different ones ... it won't take long and you'll begin to put together priorities ... it takes time, but can be fun .......... Enjoy the adventure .....
