Winter in the Pacific Northwest

Hello my friends. I’m new here and I live full time in Cle Elum Washington in a privately owned campsite. My site is located on a small lake in which the trout is plentiful. The only drawback is that you must be self contained. No hookups at all during the winter months. There is fresh water at each site from March thru October. My question is who Amongst you has decided to endure the Pacific Northwests winter with me and how are you doing?

Also I share with you a silly pic of my best friend Achilles. He lives for fun time snow time.

Ciao

gives me a nightmare.

May you have an early spring.

I'm over in Yakima Its cold here Burrrrrrrrr!

Hi there neighbor. I'm over here in YakTown we have about 13" on the ground and its been cold. In fact i froze up my refrigerator last week and it still isn't working. My trailer has the "Arctic Package" but apparently they didn't install the cold weather pack on the Norcold fridge so its apparently only good down to 32F/ Who new right? At least i have full hookups here. how do you deal with waste water over such a long stretch?

First off, WELCOME to IRV2!

Just hook up your drain line as needed, then stow it back so you don't leave an opening into the wet bay where it goes out if yours is set up that way. Fill your tank with fresh water and work off that and put the hose away. Don't leave it hooked to the water supply in sub freezing weather.

Welcome to irv2.

My experience with PNW winters was living on the west side. Wetter and less snow, although recently . . .

We spent the winter of 1990 in a travel trailer while our house was being built. That year had some terrible winter storms and record cold temps. Ice, snow and silver thaw had large areas without power for days. We were trapped in the campground by large snow drift topped with thick ice. Being self contained we were snug and warm while others we knew were without heat in their homes. Lots of people had frozen pipes. My biggest problem was the wind blowing out the pilot light in my trailer's hot water heater. First morning chore was relighting it.

When things start to thaw, watch out of odd leaks. Sometimes snow, when it piles on a roof can direct water as it thaws to unusual places which can cause leaks you might not normally have.

Great picture of your dog. Looks like he's in dog heaven.

Cool

That's the reason that we are Snowbirds. I had enough of the cold and wet. We spend the winters in Yuma and the summers in the Great PNW.
It's only 69 here today

Hello neighbor and welcome to IRV2, that's a lot of snow there. I'm in Tacoma, we had a little bit off snow last week but it is all gone now so it's not bad here at all.

It does looks like Achilles is having a great time there.

Florida, must be nice. I spent most of my adult life in sunny Ventura California. Man I do miss the beach and sunshine. I do not miss the crowds, traffic or the rude anti social people., My office was in Oxnard exactly 3.74 miles from my home! If l left my home to go to work 1 minute after 7am my 3.74 mile commute went from an outrageous 25 minutes to the absurd 55 minutes on a good day! I would rather live year round in this weather then have to endure even a single day in that rat race. But hey, thank you very much for the warm welcome. I do look forward to talking again real soon.

Ciao.

Hellooooooo Yakut.., wait is that your teeth I hear chattering just east of me? I believe it might just be. Lol. Thanks for the warm welcome, did you 13 inches on the ground. Wow I guess that these few storms spread themselves our throughout the entire state. Well I hate to say it but today is the start of a warm up with three days of rain. This state has just set itself up for some major flooding. This place is literally sitting on the Yakima River, a few of these knuckleheads have structures that hang out over the river just inches from the water. This might just be an interesting next few days. My site sits on a small lake but I’m also at one of the highest elevations in the entire place. Ok, sorry I was so long winded and my typing is atrocious but my finger are so cold they feel as though the might just snap off at any moment. With that said thanks for contacting me I do hope to speak with you again real soon. Be safe and god bless you and yours.

Welcome to the forum. Having left the mountains of Colorado 16 years ago I do not ever want to see that white stuff again.

You are joining a good group of friends here with good information to share. Read the various threads here and ask questions as they come up or add information if you can.

Good luck and enjoy the adventure!
