Edit time limit

What is the reason for the time limit on editing posts?

If someone responds to your post and you then edit it to something totally different , it would lose all of your original intent and upset the flow of the thread. Sixty minutes is a sufficient time. Afterwards you can quote your own post to explain whatever needs to be.

The reasoning is sound.

However, if the forum software allows the option, it's a bit nicer to shut off editing only after another post has been made in the thread.

Another post by OP
Or another post by anyone responding

Anyone...that could be within seconds/minutes

1 hour is reasonable time frame
But sometimes I read my post next day and see where some editing was needed

I've got the same thing, O-B... things seem clear enough or there's a fundamental error not caught during 'preview'... I prefer to correct my post, rather than reply to it after the fact, or have to explain it when others point out the error...

I often reread a post and want to fix a typo, etc. just to find I waited too long for the edit window. Personally I feel this is a fix in search of a problem as I participate in various other web forums which don't have this limitation, either with no limit on time to edit a post, or one that is measured in days.

Im in the allow us to edit camp. Im on other forums and if i read something I posted the next day i can correct it. Sometimes follow ups are needed but Ive never noticed it cause any sort of issue for anyone. Its a reasonable explanation though.

I'd like more time, until then it's on us to catch them sooner. If it's an important fix, contacting a Mod with a request and explanation may get it all fixed up for you.

Thanks for the explanation Cliff, and thanks to everyone else for your comments. Not a biggie for sure, but sometimes it would be nice to be able to edit later.

If you need help with an edit after the edit period expires, contact a moderator and ask for some help. You can do this either via PM or by reporting the post and including the desired edit in the report reason.

The software doesn't have a provision to turn off edits after newer post is made although it's a great idea.
