How many ACTIVE members?
Since we recently passed the huge milestone of reaching our 40,000th member, I got to wondering, just how many of those members are actually active on & contributing to the site?
A quick search of the Members List shows 791 pages of members, yet, from page 291 on (& a few from page 290), all those members have 0 (zero) posts. That's at least 25,000 "members" that are, essentially, non-existent. And there are dozens more pages with member post numbers in the single digits (though some can be accounted for by brand new members just getting started).
Do we have an active member count? For example, I'd classify "active" as having posted at least once within the past year?

I'm just fathoming a guess here based on personal experience, but for a site the size of irv2.com, given the number of accounts created, I'd say out of the 40,000 in existence, 500-1000 are active users, the rest created by folks that came to read, or have one or two questions answered before making a purchase.

Here are some stats:
- We have 14,543 members who have 1 post or more.
- We have about 1,000 members a day (logged in) that stop by the site
- 6,725 members with at least 1 post have been by the forums in 2009 (46% of our members with 1 post or more)
- 1,065 members have posted at least 10 posts in the last 180 days.
In January 2008 we had the most posts in a single month with 13,782 posts. For the next 13 months (through Feb 2009) post count was on a downward trend (bottoming at 9,762 in Feb). Since then we have stabilized with post counts between 10,300 and 11,300 per month. Amazingly, since February's bottoming out, the post count per month has been astonishingly close (Mar: 11,843, Apr: 10,473, May: 10,348, June: 10,314, July: 10,243, Aug: 11304, Sept: 10,646). This Month we are on target to have 10,300 posts. It's amazing how close it is each month. It's important to note that the January 2008 high was a big spike and before that the average was from 9,500 to 11,700 range.

Very interesting.....I have personnally written down the IRV2 web address for fellow RV'ers looking for a good resource this past summer. Myself, I'll try to check in every day or two, but sometimes a week will go by where I'm too busy. It sure helps pass the winter (off-season) BLUES ......

I think the January spike was a lot of our northern members getting a touch of cabin fever. Once the weather got better, they headed out to use the RVs and enjoy life.

Stats
Thanx for the stats, Andy. It's interesting that the number of posts doesn't drop off during the summer. I woulda thought there'd be less activity in the summer months when us "northerners" are out enjoying our short season. Must be the proliferation of wi-fi access at campgrounds that keep us checking in, even when we're out & about. I know if I'm without access for a few days, I get withdrawl pains. Should I be worried I've become addicted to this site?

Maybe it appears quite but we set a record last month for the mosts posts in a single month since the site's inception (see attachment). Maybe it seems quite because the drama has died down and everyone is just peacefully getting along?

Although a new member myself and not well known, I look at this site daily and try to help, although my help was very little so far, it felt good, As I enjoy helping people.
Myself, I always try to do a research on the treads already posted, sometimes I find them and other times I don't, but I try to get involded on many things.Reading the postings in this tread, Today I learned the number of folks that are members.

I'm a sedentary member, but it's because I'm on IRV2.

I like to checkin everyday. I look back through all of the old and newer forums and find them very interesting. What I can't fiqure out is why some forums have 1969 as a date for post but the actual post date on the page is more recent.
As with any organization it is the few that keep it going and the masses that lurk.
