I Guess I Don't Understand Something

Under User CP, Edit Your Details there is this message regarding one's date of birth:

"Your date of birth and age are displayed in several places on the forum. Only the administrator will have access to your date of birth should you choose to hide it via the privacy option below.
Please contact the Administrator if your date of birth has changed."
(Emphasis added)

Ummm... Under what circumstances might that occur? Just curious.

I'd like to exercise that option please! Go back to about 19 knowing what I know now, that would be great.

I can't seem to change my birth date - like to take 30 years off of my age. That must be an Administrator-only function!

Historcially, there have been several cases where someone THOUGHT they were born on Monty/Day/Year only to find, once their birth certificate was recovered, or, for some older folks the family Bible. That their date of birth was OTHER than what they thought.

And there are many cases of a baby in a basket, left on the church steps or the orphanage or the hospital. The doctors take their best guess as to the age of the child. Well, thanks to modern science he finds out he's a "Montpiellier" or perhaps a "Jones" and manages to track down his actual birth record..... THus finding out his real DOB.

So it can happen. Rare in the larger picture, but it can happen.

My birthdate changed after 40 - I now subtract

I agree the language is totally dopey and will take a look at tweaking it.

ahhhhh..darn... I bet that wording will bring a few more smiles when someone else reads it! Maybe you can put a wink at the end of the sentence.

Back in 1972, I worked for a college. We had to reprogram the student data base update program to allow a student's sex to be changed because a "he" student became a "she". Like the birthdate in this thread, we figured that once you entered the sex, it would never need changed.
