Since estimates place gun ownership at 50% or higher among RV'ers I would have to say it is related.

Agreed.

It's also divisive and no longer appropriate for this board.

I truly hope that my sig doesn't offend anyone and is just simply a reminder of the past and is a quote from a very smart man!!!

No offense to anyone is intended, but I hope that it will get people to think about who is in charge!

I don't want to know your political or religious beliefs. If I know them before I meet you and they don't match mine, I might just avoid giving you a helping hand. I won't change your mind and believe me you won't change mine. If it make you feel better to express your views on politics and religion, find a site that caters to that. That's what I do.

I guess that I started all this with my post on the Bedtime Security thread the other day. I had no intention of lighting any fuses for anyone. I was simply pointing out the rules of the forum and believe the member that started the thread was unfamiliar with them. Now with that said, I will also add that I was a LEO for a huge portion of my life and am pro firearms. This site and what you wish to say on it is not a freedom of speech issue. The site is owned by an individual/corporation and as such he and the staff sets the rules. Obviously they do not, and for good reason, want discussions on guns, politics and religion. I have been reading RV forums for years and about 99 percent of the time these discussions end up in arguments or name calling. The moderators do a great job here. I have read page after page of discussions concerning firearms and the "super dooper magnum auto shooter that will kill, skin and cook the target with one shot" threads. All this macho talk does is make you look like a poser when you start that stuff. If you want to carry a gun on your person or in your RV, please take two or three, but why do you insist on telling everyone with a computer about it. That is so unnecessary and juvenile sounding. You insist on doing it? Then find a gun forum and have at it. Better yet start your own site and discuss whatever crosses your mind. The owner and the mods don't want it, and many others here don't either.

For those of you that do not like to see the discussions of sensitive topics seems like the simple answer is don't read them. I will abide by the rules. Just seems funny that because some you don't like reading about guns, religion, or politics the rest of can't talk about it. I don't like to watch NASCAR, MSN, CNN, The Cooking Channel, WWF, etc... rather than asking the cable company to delete them I just don't watch them.

Some RV owners travel with guns and have questions, seems relevant to RV'ing.
Some go to church, they might like to ask questions about churches and religion in areas they travel to, seems relevant to RV'ing. Does this take Christmas off the list. Will we now be discussing the holiday season?
Does politics extend to veterans, the American flag, etc... While maybe not directly relevant to RV'ing seems like a lot of members enjoy discussing these topics.

Glad those of you who don't care to read about these issues are protecting us form ourselves.

Like many others I find a lot of benefit here, tons of information and lot's of good people so I will abide by your wishes.

I agree the moderators have a tough and often thankless job and they do their job well. Just seems a shame to ban topics some of us like, to keep the peace with those that do not like them, rather than suggesting that those not wishing to see these popular topics simply resist reading them.

Every RV owner needs to know the rights of protecting your RV and your life. An RV forum is the ideal place to discuss methods of protection and the laws that effect the RVer. I do not see a problem discussing an RV issue as long as the PERSONAL beliefs are kept out of the discussion.

By definition all beliefs are personal, but that's beside the point.

I don't see any way to discuss the use of firearms as a means of protection and not violate the revised Community Rules.

Ken, I hear what you are saying. You are obviously more optimistic on this subject than I am as I've never seen any thread regarding weapons/guns go more than a few posts before running off the rails.

Hope I'm proven wrong on this one but I don't think so.

So far, we haven't had much success with these types of threads. One can always hope, though.

Even the most innocent "you think is funny" comment is going to get something started. I read almost every post in the Just Conversation forum and not a page goes by that a member doesn't try to bend the rules to make THEIR point. Mod's keep up the good work... D

"Discussions about specific or pending legislation or regulations that directly pertain to RVing are acceptable but will be closed or removed if they become disruptive."
We have recently seen when an information only discussion was presented about an RV specific issue, that is in the opinion of industry professionals that see the issue as make or break in importance determining the livelihood and sustainability of our passion that affects 10s of thousands of American workers and consumers, that RV owners oppose the initiative.

I truly regret that the discussion got to the point were it had to closed due to escalating rancor that embroiled off the scale passion to the left and right extremes of the issue.

Once we have found the solution that will allow us to discuss issues and share opinions about issues that are creative and informative, it is likely that these types of discussions will not be closed. The Mission Statement defines the rules; "Supporting thoughtful exchange of knowledge, values and experience among RV enthusiasts." Once a conversation steers away from being thoughtful to personal, Moderators are enjoined to be proactive and moderate the discussion even if it means that the thread must be closed.
