Take a bright flashlight and look closely at the dash. you’ll be able to see all the indicator lamps. The one not working with some kind of engine icon or abbreviation is it, and as old as it is it’s probably not an LED so easily fixed with a bulb replacement. It’s actually called a “malfunction indicator lamp” or MIL in smog lingo.
Get a GM owners manual for the chassis and it will have a diagram of all the dash indicators. Also there’s usually a function check you can do by going through a procedure like turning the key off and on five times, tapping the brake twice, while patting your head and rubbing your belly, or something like that.
