I noticed on one of the forums there were complaints about avatar size. Size does make a difference. The important thing is the size of the uploaded photo/graphic. An avatar should be about 100 pixels wide. In the case of other photos such as mine below, it is uploaded at 250 pixels wide. These pix should not be over 300 pixels wide as it takes longer to load the bigger the picture.

Use your image software and resize your pix. If you don't know about pixels and use inches, a 300-pixel wide pic is about 1˝ inches. Also, if you can compress your pic to lessen the load time even more (sometimes by half the load time). If you have PhotoShop, it may have come with ImageReady which can compress graphics.
