It does not appear to be a problem with Comcast, or IRV2. It appears to be the smtp service that IRV2 uses. The remedy is for IRV to change smtp services, or demand that SMTP.COM get themselves removed from the "blacklist".
Because I have not been receiving email notification of updates to subscribed forums, as is the case with many other members that use Comcast, I called Comcast and asked them to find out why…. Were they blocking the email from IRV2?
My inquiry was routed to a technician that returned my call the next day (12-8-2010). Since his call came in when I was away, he left the info on my voice mail.
He stated that after quite a bit of searching he found the reason. Mail from IP address
174.132.174.245 (SMTP.COM) is being blocked. The address is on a “blacklist”.
SMTP.COM (174.132.174.245) is a third-party smtp service that IRV2 uses to relay mail to forum members.
The identification of SMTP.COM (174.132.174.245) can be found in the header of any email received from IRV2 before it was blocked sometime in November. I happened to have an old IRV2 email that I received before the blocking and found the subject IP address in the email header.
To follow up and learn a little more, I went to Mail-Abuse.com (which can also be found in the email header) to see just what they listed about the blocking of
SMTP.COM. The following is what I found:
