Tag members in post?

I've been searching through the various resources here but am coming up empty.

On Facebook, one can tag another member who will then get a notification which will draw their attention. Can a poster tag another member in a post here?

Thanks,

Jerry

A " Private Message" may be what you're after, click on the member's user name in the top left of the post and select the private message option.

Here is the scenario:

I have a thread going where I've posted a question. I know there are a few members here that own the same year, make, and model coach I have but they have not responded to the thread. One option would be to send them a private message with a link but it would be easier to just stick a tag in a reply.

It might look like, "Hey @pirate_jerry do you know the answer?"

When it comes to an individual reading something, I don't see the difference between reading a post or reading a PM. We're still talking about a notification they would then have to go look at it.

One of the major advantages to irv2 and forums in general is the sharing of information. If that's done via PM then the community doesn't benefit. Only the two individuals.

So rather than continue a philosophical debate, does anyone know if tagging a member in a post is a feature and how to do it?

The forum does have a "Friends and Contacts" feature but I don't know if that's what you are wanting. It does allow you to send a PM to them with one click.

The forums that I have seen with the ability to tag someone are generally pretty new formats, not sure how old the iRV2 software is but I'm sure it will be updated someday. It can be a tough process to update forum software especially forums with a lot of older members who do not like change, but eventually it will happen. Mark my words. Maybe as more new members keep coming and the old ones leave for whatever reason. Change is necessary. Change is good

Anyone who thinks changing with the times is not necessary just look at Sears Roebuck.

No, this forum's software does not have a member tagging feature for posts. It's old software, like over a dozen years old. That's ancient in software years. An update is in the future. We just don't know how far in the future that is.

Unless you PM the member with a link to the post (& that's assuming they enabled PM's & they check their personal email notifications), the only chance they have of seeing it is if they come across it when they are online.
