My timing switch between threads using DSL is less than 2 seconds.
Having stated that, I believe you in your post that this site is slow, but there are so many considerations to take into effect. Just where in the massive internet spectrum is this web site in relation to your web site (ISP Provider)? It's not just two wires that connect Ma Bell anymore, it is a network of servers, satellites, microwave towers and other connectivity that connects us all. It could be any one of those hops in your path, yet other paths may be wide open.
Is there a way to check your neighbor's connectivity to this forum and see if they are having the same problem? At least it may give you peace of mind that it is or is not your computer. Maybe a relative across town.
I know I have not given an 'answer' - I just don't have one.

I agree, this site is pretty slow going from page to page. I average 10-15 seconds between pages. I'm on verizon FiOS.

Works great for me. If it taking 3 minutes there is some other problem. Now the Open Roads forum is a tech nightmare always having a new problem

install a different browser and try that. At least you'll know if it's your connection or not.
If it's the connection then there's probably dick you can do about it. There might be a bad link in the route the packets take. You can try complaining to your ISP.
If it's better with a different browser then some system housekeeping might be in order to clean up the cache, remove temp files and defrag the hdd. Pretty standard stuff.
There's nothing wrong with this site that the admins would be able to 'fix' to make your connection faster.

I would like to add my two cents here.
I think the thread starters problem sound more to me like an ISP issue. Of course, if a user is on dialup here, they are going to find slow load times. Not sure if that is the case.
Second, this forum will probably always be a bit slower than the last for one reason above all: There are just many more features with this software. The more you add to any software, the more "bloated", for lack of a better term, it becomes. It is a trade off.
With all this being said, I have taken some steps today to hopefully speed up the experience of everyone. Nothing too drastic (yet) but just my anecdotal testing has shown some improvement.

I think we might get some more useful information if the people with "slow" service were to provide some basic information like"
ISP name:
DSL Speed:
Dial up:
T1:
Operating Platform: Windows version or Vista:
Browser and current revision level:
Processor in the computer:
Installed RAM:
Security software: Anti-virus and firewall.
With some information, the Tech Support could maybe zero in on a problem. Right now it is a guessing game.

It is slow for me too.. However right now I'm no a slow computer.. Don't know how it will be when I get my laptop back (it's faster) In days of old I used what I consider to be the best online service there was. Text only (no pictures) but man was it fast, Even at slow speeds it was fast (I logged in at 450 baud as I recall)
Today that service has moved from what it was to an AOL web property.. To download a message using meg-a-bit DSL takes longer than the same message at 300 baud used to.
This service is in fact faster for download, near as I can tell, but the menus are s*L*O*W*! when I need to do something like mark forums read.
NOTE: using a tabbed browser like Firefox and opening threads you are interested in in new tabs.. That really helps. Most of the download is done when you are not waiting

When you refer to "that service" or "that service", which service are you speaking about? Please clarify.

This morning (6am est) is was pretty quick getting in and running around. However, that being said, it just took more than 5 minutes to load after I clicked on the subject thread. Matter of fact while it was loading I also brought up BoA in another window and did my whole monthly bill pay before it loaded this one page of this thread.
