I am home now and on a "good" 3G connection. It is much faster in loading and the pages don't redraw over themselves when I scroll now.

As has been stated before, Firefox is quite a bit faster than Internet Explorer with the site.

At the plant I am on a T-1 line, but those computers use Internet Explorer.

Here at home I am on DSL and use Firefox. The board just moves right along here at home. Quite a bit faster than at work on the faster connection, but Internet Explorer..........

Just my "Redneck" comparison between the two browsers with the new software.

MS and IE is the 800# gorilla in the room. Just because it is the biggest does not make it the best by a long shot. I have recommended Fire Fox to folks for years now. I am not ready to try Google Chrome at this time as FF is doing a great job.

I wanted to give an update to this thread. Today I downloaded & installed IE8 on my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. The Forums page now opens within seconds as do the other web pages (photos, campgrounds...etc), page refreshings are quick & scrolling is smooth - I can even now scroll using my touchpad or mouse (had issues using IE7).

Can only conclude, in my case, my slowness & scrolling issues were due to something not compatable with the new site software & old IE7 which were resolved with the newer/updated browsers of Firefox3.0.10 & IE8.

I am, now, one happy camper with IE8.

I found IE8 to work better also, works better than AOL which was dropping off when trying to move around on irv2.

I agree that compression minimizes the effect of white space. But I think that iRV2 would like to reach the widest audience, this includes those people without fancy browsing tools that support compression.

For example do the browsers in the Blackberries, Palm Phones, iPhone, and other Smart Phones (this is what ATT calls them) support compression??????

When I read web pages on my Palm Centro it appears that there is no compression, and a 500KB web page takes a while to load. If the page is over 1000KB it may complain about the web page being too large.

In a related area, Wikipedia is a wonderful online source of information, but is absolutely HORRIBLE to read on a smart phone. Fortunately there is a web filter site called wapedia.mobi, that provides mobile users with a rational interface to Wikipedia.

I am back the road again and using my air card. It is slow as snot again - without high speed broadband. I feel sorry for those on dial up - they have probably given up.
Please go back to the old "usable" format, This still the slowest site on the web and sadly one of the most interesting. I believe you will or have lost a lot of members that have got tired of double scroling or waiting for minutes after the browser says done for something to show up.
IE 8 will not fix a problem with the programing.

As soon as I downloaded the new forum software, I noted a dramatic slowdown in both loading and scrolling the forum pages. I am using Windows XP and Internet Explorer. I watch the pale blue background slowly loading, then the banners, Google ads, thread, and ads - almost a painful experience to use the forum. Simply paging down the thread took 10-15 seconds.

I just upgraded IE 7 to IE 8 and it seems to have corrected the problem with forum pages loading and scrolling at an acceptable speed, in spite of all the ads and blinking icons!!

I broke down and updated IE7 to IE 8. There is a BIG difference in loading speed.

Because of the negative comments on IE8 on CNet, I have been reluctant to upgrade from IE7. I find that the new site is slow as molasses compared to the old software. Is there any movement by the site coordinators to do something about the slowness of the site?
