Thor Tuscany Rear Soot

We just purchased a 2016 Thor Tuscany 45AT and we are getting soot in the master bath. The drawer in the closet and the 2 drawers in the master bath are the worst hit with soot, ugh!

Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

I read that some under warranty had them sealed, but how is this done for a coach not under warranty?

Manage the airflow under the coach to make the exhaust get out from underneath directly. Don't really understand why the DPs release the fumes at the bottom, it should be at the top of the coach! Same for the generator!


Ah well. One could go down under and carefully burn incense in the storage down below to try and trace the smoke incursion, my guess is there are some highquality omission of sealing compounds under there letting air come into the below deck storage and then up into the coach from around the plumbing! Same openings or gaps will allow freezing issues to develop if coach is used in cccold conditions. The plumbing pipe openings in the floor wouldbe the main suspects!

Have the same issues with our 45 LT.

"Great Stuff" is your friend. Seal entry points. You can place a bright flashlight or lamp where
you're seeing soot then at night look for the light from any bays etc to find the leaks. Seal them with "Great Stuff". Have used 2 full cans on my 2022 ACE 29.5. Alway keep a couple cans handy.

Same problem on my 2014 Thor Tuscany xte 40 EX.
Reae bathroom under sink and 2 drawers under clothes closet. All on rear wall. I was able to solve under sink area with heavy felt cloth covering back wall. The drawers are useless. I will try the flashlight at night trick to find air leaks. We also had enormous gaps at front under dash area. Got that "sealed" under warranty. (Sealed means improved not fixed)

2nd owner of this rig and I have the same issues. I have scoured the internet for the same advice, but I can't find anything online.

I have begun the process of caulking everything in the rear bathroom, and it has helped a great deal, except that the caulk is sticky enough that it collects the soot that still comes into the space. We have made it a routine for cleaning mode to kick in when we arrive at our destination. At this point, I am down to the areas that didn't get enough caulk or areas that now allow the soot to enter, because the old areas are sealed. After I get the interior done, I will work with Great Stuff to get the underside sealed. The worst intrusion I had was at the top of the shower wall. I had a technician look at the issue, and he claimed it was mildew. Upon closer inspection, I could see the shoddy caulking job somebody attempted in order fix the problem.

Oh, don't worry about not getting the work done under warranty, because if my rig is any indication, they just used Great Stuff in the front cap, and it looks like a third grade art project that received an "A" for "Almost!"

Yes great product, they have various products with different properties as well for heat etc... But yes it seals and also makes it less noisy!


Great suggestion of product and void finding technique. If the void or space is huge-ish cut a bit of thickish plastic and test fit it then after the foaming press this in place, the foam will hold it as in glue it there!
