Unwanted ads

A couple of days ago when I started my computer Edge came on and said that Edge has been updated. It claimed to be better than ever before. It said it included AI, which I have no time for. The problem is that when I click on a posting a big popup ad comes on in a different browser page. Not every time, just randomly, but quite often. It doesn't happen anywhere else. I have ad block and it has always worked and it says it has blocked a large number of ads on this site. Has anyone else had this problem? I am asking so I can figure if it is my computer or something that happened on this site with my computer. I'm blaming it on AI although I have no clue if it is.

Could be that when Edge was updated, it reset some of your settings. Haven't ever used Edge, preferred Explorer so no help on what to look for.

Thanks. I will try that. When it comes to figuring out how to set things I struggle.

I haven't seen any other recent notices of popup ads so it may be something specific to your computer. What type of malware/virus software are you running as ads popping up in separate browser page sounds almost like an infection? Go to your settings in Edge and make sure the popups and intrusive ads are turned off.

I have Windows 11, and I use the Windows defender and the windows virus that come with Microsoft. Now I can't remember how to get to the page you showed to check on the settings you showed.

Go to the three dots in the upper right corner of the browser, click on those then scroll down to select Settings. In the Settings, select Cookies and site permissions.

Thanks, I did finally find it. It is doing it on other sites also. You can take this post down, so people aren't replying to it.

Referring to the subject line. Is there such a thing as a “wanted” ad? Aren’t all pop up ads unwanted?

People wouldn't pay to have popup ads if nobody ever clicked on them. So obviously people are clicking on popup ads, which means they aren't unwanted at all.

Their fact that pop up ads are profitable for the advertiser doesn’t mean the are “wanted”. Following that logic, drug dealers make money and their customers seek them out. That doesn’t mean drug dealers are “wanted” ( except in the wanted by the police sense).

We don't take down threads like this because someone else might be having the same problem and this would help.

They're wanted by the drug users. Just like the ads are wanted by the people who buy stuff through them.
