When taking landscape picture with your camera always have the "shutter" button on your right.

I'm only making a guess but if you are using a cell/smart phone and going direstly from that device, the site reads the data and it posts based on how you use it. I've seen lots more photos upside down in the past few years and have thought that those so called 'smart devices aren't always

The devices are smart because they have software that auto-rotates photos for viewing, no matter what the orientation of the device taking the photo.
Our forum software isn't smart. It does not auto-rotate photos.

Smart Phones really aren't that smart. A similar question was asked on the Montana site and this is the forum support staff's answer (bolding is mine):
"Most phones auto rotate the view for the viewer. If you take a pic in landscape orientation the pic will display properly regardless of the way you turn the device. The forum can't do that. Most phones default camera orientation is portrait - folks shoot a pic in the non-default view and it always looks fine to them - they upload the pic here and it displays in it's default view (on it's side).
The solution for most folks to fix this is to open the image holding the phone in portrait orientation, and resave the image on their device. When they upload it here - it should behave correctly. "

Yep. That's what I said. Phones auto-rotate. No matter what way your phone takes the photo, it'll always display it in the correct orientation for viewing.
Our software does not.

Uploaded Pictures are sideways or upside down
There are a couple ways to fix wrong orientation photos. The root issue is many phones instead of making a portrait photo be in "Normal" orientation they list it as rotated 270 as the screen grab below shows.
Ways to get around this.
1. If using a phone\ipad and using the iRV2 app generally the photos will upload correctly. If using mobile devices this is the easiest method.
2. If using Phone or Ipad and a browser. Orientation will need corrected. Majority times this can be accomplished by making a small edit on photo then uploading. This seems to set the orientation correctly.
3. If using a Windows PC and browser.
- Open image in paint make small edit and save.
- Like the phone\ipad this should set the orientation correctly.
- Also in Windows explorer you can add a column showing the orientation. If orientation does not say normal or is blank most likely it will be wrong when uploading.

They auto totate in the phone view but they revert to portrait on a forum if that's how you took the photo - just like what the copy and paste says.
