Video policy

I tried to upload a video to show someone how to do something, but it came back with a message saying "Video upload not allowed". What's the deal?

This forum does not have that feature enabled.

The forum might not support video upload directly, but you can put it on Youtube then copy the video link. Use forum tags (minus double quotes) ["youtube"]link here[/"youtube"]:

" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">

and the Youtube video will embed in the post directly.

And ignore the random unparsed HTML the forum spits out. It's just a coding bug.

The most likely reason that IRV2 doesn't allow video is that videos chew up bandwidth like there is not tomorrow. Since you don't pay for this forum I can't blame them. Bandwidth isn't free.

Except you can't start a thread with a youtube video that you created.

I might have abused the forum's implementation of code sanitizing just a little bit.

Correct. While you are able to physically do it, is not allowed.

Linking videos to promote a discussion in an already existing thread is fine as long as it doesn't link to a personal monetized site, a site requiring a subscription to watch, or contain content that violates the community rules IE language or politics.

We have this policy in place because iRV2 is for members to discuss RV-related subjects here, on our forum. It's not meant to tell folks to go elsewhere.

However, if a YT video is on subject or helps answer a question in a thread that is already posted, we do allow these videos....subject to the conditions Ted listed in the above post.

It was not a link to a youtube video, which I assume is what you are referring to. But then that is allowed, so I don't get your point. I clicked to attach a file, which was a video that I made, which was to show someone how to do something that they were asking about. The "Manage Attachment" window uploaded it, but then said it was not allowed, apparently because it was a video not a photo. Isn't that simply was is not allowed here?

I was referring to the quote from Harry Stone when I made the reply in post #9. HE was referencing a YT video.

To answer your question, again, the site's software won't allow a direct video upload to a post the way one can upload a photo.
