I know this is an old thread, but I want to add my 2 cents. I have been retired 2 years this month. The pay is lousy, benefits are so so ---- but damn, I love the hours

40 days to What retirement?

Hi I Started this thread awhile back.. I hope all the people who have retired since then or will be shortly
Are doing great. I Was retired for about 40 days and then got offered a Job at Bucars RV here in Calgary
I took the job I now sell RVs haha But I have to say, its fun, totally different from what I have done in the past
We Sell Tiffin and Newmar, and Wow are the new ones great to drive,, they are too great, now I want
To upgrade, I was getting bored sitting around doing Nothing, and the weather was still cold and snowy
So doing outside stuff around the house didn't happen,, I was getting really good at saying "I will maybe do that
Tomorrow" tomorrow never did come in those 40 days but I think it's just around the corner, well maybe it is.
Hope All you newly retired people are enjoying it

Congrats DaleM ! We have been retired since August, 2012 and loving it. Tried working part time for four months but didn't like that either. Don't like a schedule !

Enjoy and the MOST important thing...You don't have to get it done today, there is ALWAYS tomorrow and the next day etc.

If I had known that retirement would be so much fun, I would have done it first!

We have logged three years in retirement. We have had all the questions that all of you have had too, what will we do, will we have money, will our health hold out etc.
I am happy to tell you YeS!. We started out by purchasing a 29 foot Winnebago Sightseer motor home. Drove it 11,000 miles went to Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Devils tower, Mount Rushmore in 2013. We spent two moths in Florida in 2012. Then we purchased a fifth wheel even though we do not own a truck. We had it hauled to a campground in Florida and store it there in the off season, Last year we spent 5 months there. This year it will be just over four months. We are loving the life. Good luck to all of you getting ready to retire ! You will LOVE it. Not being under anyone's thumb is the best of all.. If I don't get it done today, there is always tomorrow.

Bill,
I agree wholeheartedly, we have been full timing for starting our 3rd year, and loving it, We spend 6months, maybe a little longer in Florida, then see different parts of the eastern states on our trips back to Ohio and from Ohio back to Florida. Retirement is wonderful.

After 40 years in the insurance claims business, retired about 6 years ago, wife and I are "half timing" or about 6 months a year. Still have our hard wall home in Central Florida. Both kids are close by ..... wife does not want to be out full time.

Wife and I both worked for the same company and from home (claims and audit) it took about 2 years to get rid of the 40 years of work stuff (shredding, etc.) It also took about 3 to 4 years to be able to sleep in until 7:30 or 8:00.

Still glace at the answering machine to see if it is blinking ! Also, answered the phone .... C-------ti Ins, may I help you ? ........

Hope you will find retirement enjoyable ...... travel safe
