AARP membership renewal compliments of Athene

I just received a free AARP membership renewal in the mail today compliments of Athene. Has anyone else got one of these, and if so, do you know anything about Athene? Is this some kind of scam or just another one of AARP's item for raising fees from service providers?

I didn't renew my membership a year ago because it seemed all AARP was interested in was collecting fees from providers and doing nothing to really help us senior citizens.

Do they have your credit card number?

I'd really be leary of "Free" membership.

I would not accept an AARP Membership as a gift from anyone. AARP feeds upon seniors they claim to support and represent.

X3 on another person feeling the same way. I originally joined AARP many years ago but then about 5 or 6 years ago I asked them to unjoin me. I didn't want to be counted in their number of people they represent for political purposes. I joined AMAC instead.

If I were to join any, it would be AMAC.

AARP sold seniors out just so they can get $1 billion in taxpayers' money.

I wouldn't have AARP up my shorts even if I had room for a saw mill

You'all have pretty well expressed my attitude toward AARP. There is a notation at the bottom of the free offer giving an AARP 800 number to call if you do not wish to have your membership renewed. I was all ready to call but thought I'd get some other ideas. And as far as I know nobody has my credit card number. I try to never use it for any payments to any organization (other than for merchandise purchases) just for this very reason. Do appreciate all the responses.

Whenever I learn that any organization is donating money to either party, and I don't particularly need that organization, I quit that organization! We quit AARP when they sold us down the river.

If my money is going to some politician, I will choose who it is.

Same feeling here. No one tells me who to vote for or give my money too. Me and my old union had words on this when I pulled the Reagan handle. And yes I did vote for jimmy the first time and that was enough for me. My wife has dropped our membership to aarp after they sold us out and our insurance triple its cost. Ok I got to get off the soapbox again.
😂
