Air Fryer Question

We want to purchase a Air Fryer. But we don't know anything about them.
Two people in our household but we do a lot of entertaining.

Is bigger the way to go. What about different features that are important.

Brands, what brands are the best for you?

Thanks for information you have to share.

We've been very happy with our Cosori. We have a large capacity for the S&B, a smaller version for the coach.....

Ninja® Foodi® XL Pro Grill & Griddle..........grill and griddle that sears, sizzles, and air fry crisps. You can cook meats to perfection (even a rare steak), fry chick wings and potatoes, vegetables, etc. It cleans up very easily. We keep it stored in the supplied box while traveling. It replaces our propane grill and Blackstone griddle, so we are no longer sucking down the propane tank. Now, if they can only make an electric fire pit!!

Love talking about our air fryer haha....we have 2 and both are gourmia 8 quart because there's 5 of us and even that is small if we're cooking dinner for all of us. The addition of our air fryer has almost made our microwave obsolete. We have one in the house and the other in the camper. We cook lots of different things in ours....everything from reheating pizza (which is excellent) to cooking broccoli/carrots to chicken. There's a learning curve before you really get the hang of it and what it's capable of but you will love it once you do. We use the front loading basket style instead of the toaster oven type....I would like to try one of those at some point.

This is the type we have:

Look at the various Instant Pots. Many are multi functional including air fry. We love ours.

TOSHIBA ML2-EC10SA(BS) 8-in-1 Countertop Microwave with Air Fryer Microwave Combo $187.00
https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-ML2-E.../dp/B08G4Q5196

I chose it because of the combination of microwave oven and air fryer, it's not very big.

We have a small Philips on board, great increase in cooking

But, hard on my batteries, it uses 1800 Watts, draining around 150A @ 12V

We have owned a few of them over the years, and his is my impression, first there is a lot of junk out there that does not cook evenly. Second don't buy anything that looks like a toaster oven, as most seem to be toaster ovens trying to get in on the air fryer hype by adding a fan. The ones that have performed best have round baskets with pull out drawers. The best one we have tried is a Ninja brand (AF101 bought in 2020), as it has better build quality than the cheaper brands, also avoid anything with a mechanical timer knob, a few seconds count with an air fryer much like it does with a microwave.

Now for the negative, they all suffer from limited cooking capacity no matter how big the tray is, so a 4 qt air fryer is about as effective as a 5.5 quart most of the time. Typically speaking an air fryer will produce portion sizes appropriate for 2 people, 3 would be pushing it for things like french fries, if you overload them the food come out soggy or unevenly cooked, though I have not tried any with the self tumbling baskets.

Also keep in mind that air fryers are not general purpose cooking appliances, much like microwave ovens, they have their strong points, which are mostly french fries and the like, but also some things you might not expect, like grilled cheese sandwiches, frying eggs (in a silicone liner pan), etc.

We've got 3 of them (1 for home, 1 for RV, and 1 inherited from MIL) and have used a 4th one at our son's house. They all work fine. Bigger is better - my son's was for his college apartment and it's too small for even one person. It's not a deal breaker, but we prefer one with only two knobs - time and temperature. We have one that has a dozen buttons. We only use time and temperature so the rest is unnecessary complexity. I'd say just get a big one with good reviews off Amazon.

Ninja Foodie 5 in 1 grill/air fryer/roast/bake/dehydrate......generally used outside and when not stored inside a sealed plastic tote to protect it from the elements.

Love our Cosori, but if you haven't seen yet there is a fire hazard recall out on them. We are waiting for our replacement which will go in the TT (when on FHU only), and bought an Instant double pan model for the S&B.
