Annoying phone calls

I'm looking for an answer. I have do-not-call on both my land lines, and my cell phones. Yet everyday I am hammered with calls, from all over the country and even locally. When you answer the phone, no one is there. It's just a dead line. If you call the number listed by my caller ID, a message says that the phone number is a non working number.

Does anyone know what this is all about? My phone company doesn't have a clue.

I wonder sometimes if this is a ROBO call generated from a computer and if you answer it is stored and than sold to tell-a-marketers. Just a guess?

I also have caller ID and a answering machine if I do not know the phone number this goes to the answering machine.

We mute the land line and dont have caller id. The important calls can leave a voice message .

Tony, you may be hanging up too quick for the recorded message to start. I the equipment has to hear you answer in order to start the message.

When I do robo calls, the call does not kick in until it hears something, most people answer "Hello".

If you can make the sounds a FAX machine makes, that would be perfect, as we mark those as do not call.

We use a free program called Phonetray, available here:

PhoneTray Free - Download

There is also a pay version, available here:

https://www.phonetray.com/

It requires the purchase of a modem (about $20) to work. The program shows the name/number of the caller on your computer screen. You can then add them to a list that will automatically hang up, play a "Not in service" message, or other response as you may choose.

We also use Ooma for VOIP service, which has a "black list" available to keep callers from getting through. Both work very well.

Joe, if I'm reading it right, to use this you must have the phone line connected to your computer. Is that correct? If so, then wouldn't your computer require a modem card ?

Annoying phone calls

I say hello, they start to talk. I hang up and block them. NEVER CALL BACK!
Only get about one ROBO every other month now. Less all the time! No software required.
With a cell phone, a land line (haven't had one for over 10 years) is just another bill for a redundant phone.

That's correct - you need to plug a phone line into a $20 voice MODEM, and then the modem connects to a USB port on the PC.

Be patient folks. The government is working on this problem. The government has successfully canceled the telephone federal excise tax (3%) enacted to pay for the Spanish American War.

I'm proud to say it only took 108 years.

Hi, Tony.

The 70's keep calling me wanting their clothes back. You may want to check in your clothing closet. . . . .
