I'm guessing that the 65 Satellite must be driven a 1/4 mile at a time ..

I've taken it out a few times, 1/4 and 1/8 just for goofin' off. The best it did in the 1/4 was 11.99 @ 111mph. I changed to a tube chassis Olds for a while for racing. The Satellite gets taken out for the odd sunny day cruise. Having a motorhome, two Harleys, fancy cars, and business................There's not much time to dedicate to anything.

In 1963 this car would strike terror in the hearts of many "muscle car" owners. 0-60 in about 7 seconds or less stock, 140+MPH right off the showroom floor and the first full sized American car to have disc brakes. Engine is bored, BP'd, cam, all electronic ignition I try to drive it at least twice a week rain or shine and it turns a few heads and surprises a few "ricers" now and then...

I have two:

1) a 1966 Mustang GT Fastback.

2) a 1959 Austin Healey roadster with a Ford 5 liter V8 and automatic overdrive transmission.

I have personally done ALL of the work on both cars, including interior, engine, driveline, suspension, body and paint.

The Healey instrument panel is from a 1968 Opel GT. The shifter is a shortened '66 Mustang and changes the 4 speed automatic transmission through a push-pull cable.

I also milled the grooves the Healey valve covers and fabricated the matching air cleaner cover from aluminum plate.

I still have and drive both cars regularly.

Wow, response has been better than I expected.

Mitchyb - My folks had a bug from the same era, though a little older. I remember seeing the script on the "trunk" lid on newer bugs and seeing ours didn't have one. Things a person remembers. Every winter we had to push it down a hill to get it started. I am sure yours runs much better! It looks great and brings back memories.

Sammie - My favorite Corvette is a 61, so I love yours.

Davis - awesome car, reminds me of a Rolls.

Bullheaded - Cool project. Post finished pics when its done.

Burns - Excellent cars and you got to love British electronics.

Road Dog - Here in Michigan we have Pure Stocks races every fall. Awesome races of original cars in original condition. Seen everything going down the strip. But the car that caused the most fear in the Hemi's and COPO's was the "Little Brown Box". Last time I saw him race he made it to the finals and beat the COPO Camaro 1 out of 3 races. Another awesome Studebaker.

BTW here's probably more information than anyone really wants to know: all neat cars are good, however, "Classic Car"; while sort of a general term, is also used by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA), and only cars on their list are truly recognized as "Classics". Almost all are pre-WW2, and usually high-end Classic Car Club of America ? Approved Classics . A CCCA officer mentioned to me that they should have copywrited the term Classic many years back, but they didn't, so it is in more general use.

The only time it really matters is at a Concours d'Elegance (as opposed to a car show or cruise-in) where there may be a CCCA class. Here's a good example of an event I help organize: Keeneland Concours d'Elegance (we had a hot rod class a few years back, with some outstanding examples)

Again, not to start a controversy, just some information. As I said earlier, all neat cars are good and to be appreciated

I couldn't resist ! I know it's NOT a Classic Car but it IS the Very-Last of the Air-Cooled Porsche 911s that has its roots back in the early 1960's, it's My Baby - 1998 911 993 Turbo'S' 450bhp capable of 0-60mph in 3.9-Seconds and onto 192mph, Not bad for 1998 only 23 came to the UK with Lots of upgrades to celebrate this Final Air-Cooled 911, the version for the USA was 424bhp but still a Much sort after Collectors Car. She "CYBILL" named after My Late MAMA is now a "Garage-Queen" as She spends most of Her time in a 'Carcoon' in the Garage and has only covered 13,000 Miles from new. It's a SMILE-a-Mile when I take Her for a Spin !
