UPDATE:
We have the firepit running off of a 40 lbs propane tank to a 200,000 BTU 2 stage regulator then a 3/4" hose to the valve for the burner. Holy crap, that thing is a flamethrower at full tilt. Looks like I can get 4-5 hours at full blast, but I don't think we will run it that way all the time. We were out on a couple of 35 deg nights and once the lava rock heats up, we can turn it down and get good warmth without the flamethrower. We decided to stick with propane vs. spending $5,000 to run a dedicated LNG line from the meter.
The 1/2" LNG line coming from the house will stay capped off. We could hook it up for our BBQ grill, but we don't grill very often and a 20 lbs LPG tank lasts a long time for us. We'll leave that option for the next owners.
One thing I wanted to pass on is the bluetooth sensors I am using to monitor my LPG tank levels. They are the bee's knees. Accurate and easy to use. I have them on the two 40 lbs tanks for the firepit, the grill tank, the patio upright heater and the two 30 lbs tanks on my RV. Here's a link if anyone is interested:

So I take it the Mod/add on using the CSST would not pass muster and you would have to run separate dedicated Gas Line to firepit???

You need to keep the lava rocks dry.
They absorb water and will explode when hot.

NEC would not require bonding as the OP stated because it does not supply an electrical appliance and if it did the electrical appliance grounding wire would serve as the bonding requirement per NEC. NFPA 54 does require bonding for gas piping that serves the interior of a building but not the exterior. In certain jurisdictions (like Tucson) the interior gas piping is required to be bonded separately but the CSST being attached to the black pipe would automatically be bonded if the black pipe were bonded, however again a moot point as the CSST is outdoors.
See video, NFPA 54 is mentioned around 11 minutes in.

The LNG line coming out of the house and the CSST running under the porch was always for the BBQ grill. I wanted to see if it would work for the firepit instead. It won't. Too small.
The dedicated line would run from the opposite corner of the house to the back corner where it would exit the house. The quote was for 1 1/4" black pipe in the basement which is unfinished. When we had the patio put in, we put in a 3" PVC conduit to accommodate CSST running from the side of the house to the firepit. That's what's feeding the firepit from the two 40 lbs LNG tanks now.

I read that in the reviews on Amazon when I bought the lava rock. Quite scary. I built a wood cover for the firepit so we can use it as a table when we aren't running the fire.

Did you change the Orifice on Fire Pit to Natural Gas Orifice or try to run it with the Propane Orifice??

When it was hooked to LNG it was the LNG orifice. Switched to the LPG orifice when I hooked it to LPG.

Just curious due to your statement about it being a 'flamethrower'
DO you know what BTU rating is on that fire pit?

It's a flamethrower Biscuit, because he's got Liquified Natural Gas all the way up to the orifice. Yuk! Yuk!

Hire a Plumber to do the job correctly and has insurance that states he is insured under "normal business operations" and has the Correct CSST certifications card from the specific brand manufacturer. If it goes "KABOOM" and you did it NO INSURANCE.

I'm not a plumber although I pretend to be sometimes.
Curious...
1. Why not a coupling instead of a union? Cheaper and won't loosen.
2. I can't tell if the seal is tape or dope on my monitor. If tape, why not yellow tape instead of white? My understanding is the teflon tape should be yellow for gas. If it is dope, never mind....

The underground part is in 1 1/2" PVC that is sealed. I still need to seal where the CSST comes out of the ground and add a bracket to attach the black pipe to the wall.
I tested all the connection with soapy water and got no bubbles. Firepit works great.
Can someone in the know tell me if there are any code issues with this part of the hookup?
Thanks,
Corn

Don’t see a shut off valve. There should be one unless I don’t see in picture
