We were in Jefferson City for several days and there it is a beautiful capitol city. Lots of people live there but it still has a small town feel. Not very many RV parks there though...

What part of the state? I live in NorthWest part of the State. Each part of the State has its advantages. For example Kansas City and NW MO are very Western in attitudes and people, St Louis and NE MO are more Eastern and metropolitan than the western part of the state. Central MO is a mixed bag in attitudes and a mixture of both East and West. Columbia and Jefferson City are an example of that.

Go South to Springfield and you get a much more Southern attitude and flavor, more laid back easy going etc.

Cost of living is definately much cheaper. I have stayed here since retiring from the Military for that very reason. I was offered a VERY GOOD position in RI two years ago. When I did the cost of living analysis I would have to make 150% of my current salary to just maintain my living. It is my primary reason for staying, plus all 4 kids and families live close by. Momma aint leaving here for any reason now that Grand Babies are toddling around!

HTH,

I live by the lake of the Ozarks, Moved here in 1977. Missouri is a very inexpensive place to live, depending on what county you choose. Love it here.

Not very many RV parks there though...

but more than you think within 40 miles of Jefferson city.

Lived there much of my life. Poplar Bluff, Wentzville, St. Louis, K.C, St Joe. Bought a place near Cuba when we retired. The state has lots of diversity and is relatively cheap. However, they have state income tax and personal property tax. We sold our place in Cuba when we went full time and have found Tn. to be as good as Mo. and much better for taxes.
Compared to Ny. though you'll think you got a huge pay raise.

Cape is halfway between ST Louis and Memphis. Good region of MO. Close to State Parks and two National Parks. You would be on the edge of the Ozark Mtns. Well the folks here call them Mountians, but nothing compared to the Rockies and Smokies. Nice area.

Although I now live in Oklahoma I lived in Missouri for 15 years. I was born in upstate NY and left when I was 27 years old. What I liked about Missouri is it reminded me a lot of the part of NY I was raised in (Chenango County). Leaving NY was one of the best decision I ever made. Moving to the southern central part of the country was the second. You are not taxed to death like NY, ILL, although they do have personal property tax that can be a little high depending on what part of the state you live.
