Several years ago when I was still in the working force, I was asked to give a presentation on Identity Theft. It went over so well, that I gave the same presentation several times. One of the items that is still used today, along with many others, is the "hotel electronic key." It is still being used by perpetrators to steal your identity and charge things using your CC number.

For over a year now I have the "Foil slip cover" for my credit cards. But more so, if I receive a WiFi CC, I put the little chip on my bench vise and smash it with a hammer. The card can still be used with the "swipe" method, but not RFID.

Now thats interesting cutting up your old CC you maybe still at risk with that chip.

I just checked ebay and you can buy RFID reader/writers for less than $100.00.... I'm going to go check all of my CC right now..

Do remember that these are "proximity" RFID chips. As you notice in the video you hve to be real close to the chip to scan it. Men are more at risk as the wallet is typically in the back pocket and anyone can come up in a crowded area, touch the wallet through the back pocket and say, "Oh! Excuse me," and be on their way with your information.

Also, the perpetrator doesn't really care. If they get close to 100 people in a days time and only get 1 card to read, they are happy campers, er, let's hope non-campers.
