AZ RV Insurance

Trying to decide if I should register my 32 foot Southwind in AZ. I have a house there but a CA license. Its an 2005 and CA registration is over $400

What are people paying in AZ for registration?

It is very easy. Call the dept of registration and ask them about your specific coach. If you belong to AAA, go to them and ask

I just renewed my AZ tags for my 2004 33' class A last month. Total fee was $135.51, including a new "public safety fee" of $32 that the State implemented late last year, on all vehicles. There apparently is a bill working its way through the State government right now to overturn this fee, but that may or not be successful, as the governor has promised to veto it if it passes.

Downside to registering an RV in AZ is that it has to be smogged every year, since it is considered an oversized vehicle. The smog test is only $16, but it is a pita to drive to the facility, and wait in line to get it done, plus it has to be done within a relatively short time frame.

The vehicle license tax, which is part of the total registration fee, is determined by the retail price of the RV when new, which is then depreciated by a certain percentage each year.

Unless a change was made in the last year, the vehicle inspection is not statewide, but goes by county in which you are registered. In 14 years never had my coach inspected in Yavapai county. Mesa is in Maricopa cnty near Phoenix so inspection is required.

Oops! You are correct. Now that I think back to when I bought my rig 8 years ago, the previous owner lived in Marana, which is in Pima County, and he told me at the time that he never had to get it smogged.

I pay $227.36 in Arizona for my 2004 Dolphin 32'. No smog inspection required here in Yavapai county.
