We prohibit alcohol at our off-road events.
Why does the BLK need to be armed? they are land management , if they have an issue they should call real cops.
I saw a text from the daughter of the one shot, said the one shot was not who they wete chasing and they were in a damaged ATV/ UTV just getting it out of the desert.
Don't know all the facts but media should report them.

Gee, do you suppose drug traffickers and illegals treking up from the Mexican border could have something to do with why they are armed?

At least in Quartzsite, the BLM officers are sworn law enforcement officers that receive the same training as real cops and have the same responsibilities. They aren’t just rent-a-cops.

Wow,
After reading all the "comments", what a crackup. First off, all BLM officers that carry weapons ARE REAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS! You don't get to carry a gun and have authority to use it, FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT unless you're P.O.S.T. certified. "Rent-a-cop", yeah sure. As usual, threads like this can easily turn into a campground fire game. You sit around in a circle, and, start the game by whispering something in the persons ear to your right. He/she relays it to the one on their right, the next one does the same, same, same etc. all the way around the circle 'til the last person whispers it in your left ear and, IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT!
Folks, the media is the media, just how honest and accurate is ALL reporting? And people are people. So much can be assumed in a story like this because NONE OF US WERE THERE. None of us SAW what really happened. None of us were in the BLM patrol car and experienced what they did. None of us had to make a snap decision in that particular circumstance that may, or may not have been a LIFE THREATENING to either the BLM officer or, any other person in the immediate area of which, he's/she's SWORN to protect.
We see this kind of stuff every day in the U.S. So many jump to so many conclusions WITHOUT knowing any and all the facts.
Now, on the other hand, are there BAD COPS? Yep, you betcha there are. There are cops being fired every day in America for improper behavior, gross dereliction of duty, improper use of authority and many other causes. While most hiring agencies do a pretty thorough screening and background check of applicants, as happens at least some of the time, a BAD APPLE gets through.
But, without a doubt, we should all wait to see just what the investigation reveals.
Scott

Sadly, we rarely hear anything but the negatives. Scott, I believe that 99.5% of the sworn officers in this country are GOOD apples. I doubt we'll ever hear anything more about this unless the officer is found guilty.

Sadly .5% are really bad apples, and the other 99.5% are covering for them.
Truthfully, I think the percentage is a bit optimistic. I've done my share of speeding in my day. I typically say very little, as it is well known the less you say, the less likely the officer will specifically remember you in court. I can tell you first had, probably 60% are on a power trip. About 40% acted professionally.
This situation looks very bad for the BLM. We do know that there was mistaken identity. That alone bodes poorly as it is unlikely for an innocent person to act in a way that would be confrontational. The area where the incident occurred was legal for off road use. The woman was shot from behind. Neither victim was charged.
