I'm certainly not advocating no security procedures for air travel. What should be happening is work is done with intelligence experts and procedures implemented that can actually can do some good.

I couldn't agree with you more. It's a huge overdone knee jerk reaction spending this much money just on aviation security. I'm a 24 year airline pilot with friends on 2 of the 911 airplanes so I get the fear but the reality is had they targeted a football stadium things would be different. Also their are a lot better ways to spend money if you your goal is to save lives.

We will destroy ourselves before any outside country or group will. Just profile! Purchase an RV and see America.

You guys seem to be experts on security. How do you stop someone from smuggling something in his underwear?

Pilots
Now I have to add my 2cents. As a former Pilot I flew mil. Brass, Politician, etc all over the country and world. MOST Pilots held / hold very high sec. clearances. Nobody would dream to hurt anybody. We were looking forward to get home and see the kids and wife / girlfriend. We are proud to do a safe and secure flying job.
Profiling seems to be the answer. Other countries do it.

Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports:
All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or in your body.
The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth.
This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be none of this crap about racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials.
This is so simple that it's brilliant. I can see it now: you're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system; "Attention, standby passengers! We now have a seat available on flight number..."

That is just plain funny!

I want to visit a Canada next year when we are in Alaska. We are going to pull the 5 Th wheel. No Fly! If you make a list of the terror attacks that hit us were any 50 and 60 year old people in the working class? I saw a Nun on TV getting checked. This made me sick I am Catholic and a Third Degree night. This is an insult to me.Why is it that the USA is doing this and not mid east country's?
We need something better to screen people. I remember 911 every day and hope we never experience that again. Do not let go of our freedom. Our armed forces are being killed and wounded every day for our freedom. God Bless Our Armed Forces. We will get through this mess we are Americans and it is time we take care of America.

Nobody is giving there lives for you freedom to avoid a pat down at an airport. The security at the airport is to protect your freedom of travel and another 911 will take that away.

I believe the point is, can security be overdone, and where do we draw the line? What's next, cavity searches for every passenger? Like everything else, there has to be a reasonable balance between constitutional rights and security.
Actually, by oath, I believe those young men and women are sworn to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Quote:
U.S. Constitution - 4th Amendment
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I'm sorry but Rusty JC's point is right on. I fear our Federal government much more than I fear the terrorists on the subject of freedom.
Another point that is being missed here is success rate. Please supply the evidence that you or anyone else has that what TSA is doing works. "Feeling" that it works isn't good enough. Hard cold facts are necessary. I do not accept "deterrence" as a substitute for facts.
Don't misinterpret this. I'm not saying that there is no need for security. But I do not accept that to protect me from robbers, the Federal government needs to take away all of my possessions.
