just saw your reply, apologies.

i understand how you feel. we've had two whalers, a factory-custom dive boat and a gtx ski boat and loved them both ... wish we kept them.

Consider where you will use it a lot of lakes around here don't allow 2 stroke motors. I didn't use my boat for fishing only water skiing so I bought an olds powered jet boat for good power pulling up slalom skiers.

If fishing is primary reason for the purchase, buy the fishing boat.

My last boat was an '88 Sea Ray Ski and Fish, I bought it new. It was a ski boat with the fishing option. It was a nice fancy boat but not that much of a fishing boat. Was too high out of the water. The v-hull was not as stable as a fishing boat, rocked a lot. It was hard to troll on a windy day. The windshield acted like a sail in the slightest wind. Even though it has a large powerful 24-volt trolling motor, a light breeze could easily over-power the trolling motor.

One consolation though, I could get to the fishing hole quickly, comfortably, and in style.

Yeah i forsee fishing is it for me. Its not like i attract the babes so i dont need a sunbathing boat and being a loner its not like i can drive the boat and water ski at the same time so thats out. Besides the one time that i tried to water ski with family i got such horrible leg cramps they had to litteraly drag me out of the water because my legs were curled up like pretzels in the water.

Ocean vessel is out because im a firm believer that man has no business out on the open sea. The sea is just waiting for you to make a small mistake and it will swallow you whole and not even burp afterwords.

So yes fishing it is.

Dave,

Yea, I can relate. Seems we were both in the same boat (pun intended). Two years after I bought my boat, I met my future DW and my priorities changed. Sold the boat eight years later and started to look into traveling. Still like to fish and go fast on the lake. Like the feel of the wind on my scalp (my hair turns loose before it turns gray). I now fly-fish in Colorado when we travel there or fish locally when the DW can get some time off.

Good luck on your boat search and remember:

If you have a big boat, you will have big problems;
If you have a small boat, you will have small problems;
and if you have no boat, you will have no problems.

And feel free to replace "boat" with "RV". The outcome will be the same.
The difference between a happy boat and/or RV owner and an unhappy boat and/or RV owner, is their love for boating, fishing and/or traveling. The problems will always be there, its just how you react to them.

Carl

I need to make a gate in my fence so i can back a boat trailer into the yard when i do get one. I assume an 8 foot gate is plenty for almost any trailer?

My fence sections are 8ft wide, so what i was going to do us just make a vertical slot rail on each end and then i can just pick up the gate to open it or slide it back in to close it. Much like they do on small wooden trailer gates that are removable.

I've had my Fiberglass Rinker for 30 years. Always stored outside. Still looks good. Next year I'll have to replace the floor for the second time. 3 litres I/O still runs great. Actually still had the original prop. It's been dinged up a couple times though. Very simple car motor/carb basically.
